Just tried proofreading a document on a relative's laptop - how the FLYING FUCK do people type on those goddamn pieces of shit?! The key placement is so fucking cramped and narrow - everything is off and feels completely unnatural. It took me ten goddamn tries, and in the end I had to resort to one finger peck typing - something I haven't done since I was 6 years old. I've never been so goddamned frustrated before.
And while I'm at it - FUCK TOUCH PADS. I'm not sure what fucking moron considers it a suitable replacement for a fucking mouse - it's not. And they place it directly below the fucking space bar, right where my wrists rest. Yea, that ended well.
Fuck that shit - give me a mouse and keyboard with a desk any-day. Mobile computing can kiss my fucking ass!

Could be wrong but aren't there laptops with the touch pad on the right? I think I saw a model like that not long ago...
If the manufacturer doesn't give you one, you should always buy a laptop mouse when getting a laptop. Always.
You can always plug in a mini mouse and disable the touch pad or if you're just typing away, disable it for that time. That's what I do when typing a decent doc/edit/etc. After a while you get used to it and can easily go around the doc with just the keyboard inputs, though in some cases you will need mouse control; witch is why I think it's a must to have laptop mouse.

Mac keyboards are the most horrible keyboards I have ever used. My friend had a Mac and I couldn't type for shit.

Most laptops suck. The only decent laptop keyboards I've seen are on thinkpads and a few dells. Lenovo still knows how to make a good keyboard, plus they have trackpoints which are great.

The layout on this one was similar to that. If I put my hands on home-row, the bottom part of my thumb hover over the fucking touch pad, causing the cursor to go fucking ape shit.
Maybe my hands are just too big - but after 10 minutes of trying to deal with that shit I just gave up - wasn't worth the hassle.

That would probably work fine - or one of those little knob thingies. But this touch-pad in the bottom center shit is just ridiculous!

That pic is horrible. Looks like he overused a Photoshop filter rather than using his DSLR lens to zoom in on the space bar.

You know, laptops usually have Fn-Fx combination (Fn-F9 on my Asus) that disables touchpad. That's what I usually do when doing some light gaming on laptop (with external mouse).
Still, I did recently bougth wireless keyboard, so I'm not limited with just laptop keyboard.
