Does it bug anyone else that spec ops don't get points for blowing things up? Medics get points of healing and reviving. Support for giving ammo. Etc.. If a spec ops blows up enemy artillery shouldn't they also be recognized?

Check the above link, it explains about how there was a "Clan HQ" in the game prior to release, where the game had a seperate section for setting up clanmatches, keeping clan-statistics, etc. - an entire own ranking system for clans.

Also it had another game-mode called "Supply Lines" that apparently are still in the server-side, but never were put into the client side.

Also there's options for having the clan's own armpatches, and a lot of other goodies, including 128 player maps. AND another (better) serverbrowser.

Obviously these were left out, the game wasn't complete...

that supply line thing looks interesting

Who cares, I am glad I own the game now. I hate waiting. The game is in very acceptable shape to me.

Once in a game, it runs pretty decently. I gonna try reducing my page/virutal memory to 350... But my bone of contention is menu system and verification... loading can be a couple of minutes or very quick but it tends to hang before actually allowing you to join the fight.

Even though some of the things mentioned on the patch sound good, does not sound like they have gone far enough - the fact you cannot save favourite servers is criminal for a start!

"Fixed issues that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.

We've added some new functionality and buttons to the Multiplayer Browser that make finding an open game of Battlefield 2 much, much easier. Issues users have encountered involving zero ping servers or browser hangs have all be addressed.

-Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.

Some functions previously were not available to be rebound in the Controls Options menus. These items have been added to make rebinding of functions much easier."

I got this tidbit of info from a "friend" (Yeah, I know the believability of that statement, so take it as you wish):

EA/DICE use an own in-house server-software that is slightly different from the other ranked servers - these are not "bugged" in any way, so that they accept generated keys, they log them.

What these logs will be used for is up for speculation - but I personally think IP-bans/account bans are to be expected (I know I'm probably stating the obvious here).

However, if you've been playing the pirated version, and are thinking about purchasing the real deal, you might just be banned, despite using a fake account (seeing how they logged your IP).

I reckon those with DHCP-ISP:s are pretty secure (unless EA/DICE wishes to go the distance with this and want to contact ISP:s (which is a rather costy process, so very unlikely)). But those out there with static IP:s might have a problem Razz

Ah well, I know I'm probably just saying what's already known - I just wanted to let you know that someone on the inside confirms it.

Good news, might open up the ranked servers for those that did buy the game legally.

Sorry all my Warezing friends, but I just think you shouldn't expect all the functionality in a warez'd copy as you'd find in the full game.

Just read this and have to say, 'Thanks Fisk... you may have just ruined my day!'

Just returned home with a certain brand spanking new shiny boxed game with a rather large red 2 on the front to be confronted with your news.

I hope you are wrong otherwise I will be... well disappointed to say the least

My Ip would be static as on a UK Cable service, right? So if what you say is true I could now not be able to connect to certain servers?

Sad

i try and do the 'right' thing for once and get shot down!

From what I know they haven't imposed these actions yet... since the accounts with generated keys still work (I'm not banned for instance).

I suggest, if you want to be on the safe side, that you ask your ISP to get a new IP, register a new account at Game Spy, and use that instead.

If your ISP wants a reason, say that you've been receiving a bunch of DDOS-attacks recently (or something in the likes of that).

I would imagine theres a good few months of life left in the demo at the moment as was the case with UT2k4.

changing pagefile to 350 didnt help much. I put the game on 4xAA and 6xAF to see how it looked and it actualyl performed pretty ok on my 6800GT. This game suffers terrily from aliasing. Nice to see a new patch is coming tho! Peace,

Yep... pagefile did not seem to do much for me either... Although even if I max the settings it just seems temperamental - it runs just fine sometime whether I have AA cranked up all the way etc. Noticed though that chaning the sound from software to hardware does seem to cause issues - crashing to desktop even though my set up if pretty decent.

As I have said: the main issue has to be the delays between choosing a server and actually playing.

Got to get this off my chest: I particularly despise spawn killers who prey on those just joining a game ; as mentioned elsewhere there is often a massive lag for the 1st minute or so when starting and anyone who sees someone standing still, facing a wall and not moving should give themselves a slap if they try and kill them.

Just bloody frustrating as when it works it is sweet: in terms of framerate etc. but there are these awful period of drag and lag and 20 mins reloading the server menu then 15 minutes loading the bastard map followed by 5 mins verifying the c***ing client ... then once the map starts it is always laggy for 2 mins or so--- bad news if your base is under attack...

Also if you have the audacity to try and quite during any of the above it take f***ing hours to disconnect or return to desktop and once it does it freezes everything up for a while.

As you may have gathered I am fairly pissed with it all...

On the other hand, it can be great - disappointed the VoIP is not used as ppl report it makes good servers laggy.

Sigh -- roll on a patch or 5!

Maploading here = less than 2 Minutes
verifying the client =: less than 1 Minute

you should check your "Hardware" Sir

This might sound like a n00b question... but is there any way to change my IP (my ISP uses DHCP).

I have tried cmd > ipconfig / release the / renew but it didn't change the IP.

simply reboot your Router (or Modem), or disable your networkconnection in Windows, then enable ----> new ip here

works for me

Wow lobsterboy... That never occured to me - what a revelation.

There was me blaming the game never once thinking to check my hardware.

Pure genuis.

As I have written, sometimes it loads very fast but a lot of the time it is temperamental i.e. for no apperant reason it takes ages.

A more constructive suggestion could have been; check your connection/ports/firewall etc.

That would be more logical, wouldn't it? If it was down to my hardware it would not work any of the time would it?

But thanks. No really.
Incisive, useful and above all else displaying you deep understanding the intricacies of PCs.

For all you know, you could have an entirely different configuration - without any knowledge about my set up I am impressed you could make your diagnosis.

The ISP usually remembers which MAC-address had which IP-address for an amount of time.

If you could change your MAC-address, you would most probably get a new one.

Problem is MAC address's are hardware specific, so I doubt that would work unless there was some dodgy hack lol. We will not get into that though Wink .

Surely if you guys are enjoying such quick load times something must be wrong elsewhere?

Has anyone had to change/open ports as in the manual?

By the way I use a netgear wireless router - has anyone else had to spend time configuring it?

What about firewalls? XP/Zonealarm/ Norton know to cause probs?

i use a cable router and didnt need to open a single port to play the game

experienced some problems with outpost, kerio and sygate personal firewall

zonealarm works like a charm with bf2

hope that helps a little

Ok thanks for that

So if it isn't the router, TCP/UDP ports or zonealarm where does that leave me?

As I have the latest drivers etc and given it works fine some of the time could it be this memory leakage thing?

How can I mop up this mess:-(
