Times are bad indeed when RPGs are best played with gamepads.
The game pretty much plays exactly the same with or without.
As long as it's done well, I have no issue with it.
Risen is also a third person aRPG, they fit better into gamepads than for example pointnclick aRPGs.
If you want to force yourself behind a keyboard and mouse, I won't stop you.
As long as you know being superior means relaxing on the couch behind a 60" plasma

Whaaaat pickpocket only through dialogue ??
Damn
What's up with couch's and big tv's. Is this another of those American things that the normal world doesn't understand? Maybe they don't fit in chairs anymore?

yes having a home and a big tv is clearly american exclusive thing

Morrowind had horrible combat, still a great game. I'm glad people are starting to appraise the game for other aspects. I still have no idea why the fuck they'd change combat (they did it with G3 too), but I can look past it. I just hope it'll run good on my old 5850
Shadows are the killer, turn those down to Low or Medium and you'll get a significant performance boost. As for the game itself? It's not terrible, it just had shitty combat with the lack of dodging really hampering it. I'm not too far into the game to compare other aspects yet though.
Indeed, lowering the shadows helped a lot, now the average framerate is better and I can easily reach the 50+ fps, which is a huge improvement from the beta (Also no sign of the evil stuttering).
Now if only someone magically used some voodoo trick to fix that combat system we would have a pretty solid game

SSAO and soft-shadows are utilized when using the ultra preset, I think one of them (soft-shadows probably as it's likely less demanding of the two.) is also on when using the high preset, shadow resolution between both should be the same (2048, 4096 or higher works but will affect framerate) but anyway that's why the shadows cause such a performance hit.
Went and bought this for 39 bucks and been trying to get it to run for hours but nothin but ctd after risen 2 splash screen:( wonder if there will be refunds?
You probably need to set sampling rate of your sound device to no more than 48kHz.

don't have access to config file right now but i think SSAO is enabled with medium and high presets.
It seems I'll have to skip this one. Either I'm doing something wrong, or for some strange reason I just can't get vegatation to behave normally - ini tweaks or no ini tweaks. To be honest, I don't see any difference at all when I'm editing ConfigDefault.xml. And as much as I would like to play another Gothic'esque game, trees growing when I move are a deal breaker for me. Kills any possible immersion in one blow.
Also, as many others mentioned, combat is a joke, plain and simple. After Risen's combat, which I liked so fucking much, this feels like G3 returning from beyond it's forgotten grave all over again. I kinda get why it happened - they wanted to create a combat system that would be more fitting for fencing, with that pirate theme and all, but... well, they failed miserably and intentions are really no excuse for shit like this making it into the final product.
Hmm, using the KoA fxaa gives me black screen on startup and crashes the game. Working fine without...
I had the same issue, some games don't like the shader files being in the same directory as the .exe -- so move the shader.fx file and injFX_Shaders folder into the root of your game folder, and put the d3d9.dll in system. Works for me after that =)
If you ever get this issue with games, check for log.log to see what the error or problem is.
