So, it's basically the whole game (+ DLC in Elite's case), but due to the crack being incomplete/beta, it locks the game out to very limited spaces (or to the playable territory in the beta)?

After I fixed my crashing issues which was resolved by updating my nvidia driver, and with non popping landscape. AND figured how combat works and how cool muskets are, I'm quite enjoying myself.
The game is quite immersive with it's changing day and night cycles and the varied creatures, caves and npc's to find and talk with.
Exploring the old ruins has a very indiana jones feeling to it with pressure plates, traps, ghouls etc.
Few things that really annoying is the fact that when you roast meat it's done out of the world on a seperate screen, same with lock picking, chest opening and maybe other interactions as well, which really removes the immersion that previous games had so much of, though I hope that something like this can be fixed in a mod, it's not that important.

Well as stated my first impressions were pretty horrible, however the game really opens up once you get past the tutorial and you generally figure out how things work and how to handle enemies - parrying really help there also muskets.
Keep patty around as long as possible, though you will need to drop her off at steelbeard to progress the story and become a pirate - like Guybrush Smile
Theres a lot of these legends you can read about various interesting artifacts that you can then find - though it's hard to do so most of the time.

Some reviewer complained about armor being too easy to get, I wouldn't say that. You're really hurting for money most of the time to train skills and get ammo and better weaponry, 300-500 for a piece of armor is a huge investment and it's not always readily available only if the correct npc's like you enough or you've done some task for them to get there, so in a way it's the same 'armor' progression system as was in Risen and Gothic 3.

I'm still running about on the first island but it's really very immersive and enjoyable. No I'm not trolling so help me god Razz

Sabin (and others that had performance problems), you should take a look at this:
http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1141149-FAQ-%28Frequently-Asked-Questions%29-Technical?p=18849179#post18849179

Might be this the cause? I don't have it installed and I didn't have it installed when I tried the "beta" either.

I use almost the same settings as JB, I've lowered the shadow quality and the shadow render range. My fps vary from 45-60 (vsync)

Noope, never had these installed, since I don't need #D Vision features, but the issue with low framerate/FPS sluttering is still here.
