Kickstarter is good - we get the games we want rather than the shite they try to force feed us. <end of discussion>

I'm a proponent of Kickstarter initiatives, I like that we have a say in the games that we want - and we're sending a message that certain types of games can and will sell. Yes, gaming is so bad that for developers to make the games they, and we, want --- they have to beg for cash. They have to turn to the gamers for funding because, quite simply, publishers just don't want to know.
So fuck publishers and bring on the Kickstarters/Crowdfunding! If I don't like the sound of a game; I won't back. If I do; I'm happy to put forward the cash.

Yeah right And how many of these reach their required price? One out of how many?
Also, fuck publishers - sure, but I haven't seen yet Activision or EA sweat, when people state "fuck Publishers, we have a say in creating some 2D shit" and then go and buy the next Modern Warfare.

I agree, but what is the point of making so many threads? Most of the games "proposed" are not going to reach any status. If a game is about to be made, sure OK, but otherwise what is the point?

I'd understand annoyance if it was fifty threads on the same topic, like game deals used to be, but it isn't. I can probably count the amount of KS threads on one hand, lol, and there's only one of those on the first two pages.
You say that you don't see Activision or EA sweating? KS isn't trying to do that, it's trying to raise money for independent developers to make the games that gamers have supposedly been screaming about. We all piss and moan about Seven Shades of Brown 2: Visceral Warfare... well KS is something to combat that, or at the very least give us the chance to help fund the games we claim to want. If Wasteland 2 was made with EA backing, it would end up just like Syndicate - because that's the only kind of game that sells enough units to please companies like EA/Activision. Same goes for Shadowrun. Both of those met and then mightily surpassed their targets and are now going on to, hopefully, make some pretty fucking kick-ass games.
I'd say that's enough for me

From the consumers point of view theres nothing bad about Kickstarter.
You choose which you want to fund and how much. You can use common sense and only fun projects that look like they will go anywhere based on developer reputation or the scope of the project.
You have a chance for your input to be heard and they will try to cater to what you as a customer want, rather than listening to some qualitative or quantitative input from focus groups.
So instead of being told what you want, you can say what you want. And if you don't trust the people behind the various projects then don't fund them, nobody is forcing you.
From a publishers point of view Kickstarter is great, as the projects that gets founded wouldn't have been published anyway and you get to see if and how much interest there is in these projects witout investing any money into research yourself.
None of the funded projects appeal to the same demographic or audience as your core projects target so you don't loose money due to competition either.

yeah. Suddenly after Double Fine kickstarter, everyone asks for money to fund their game.
Kickstarter is great and allows small studios to "kickstart" their projects but I think that its being overused.

We finally have the opportunity to fund games that otherwise would never see the light (because either too niche or not derp enough for the masses), I don't see anything wrong with that . Some projects are going to fail, it's inevitable , but a great part of them will succeed, I'm quite confident about that. Everyone will be happy in the end

I am the cheapest of the cheap, yet I've fundend two or three projects over kickstarter. If they can mobilize me, they can mobilize anybody

The problem that I find with kickstarter is that once the game is finished with all of the funding used there's quite likely there wont be that many purchases of the game, resulting in a loss for the studio. This is all theoretical though, so we can only wait and see.

I don't see what the problem is. Don't want to support the project, then don't.
It's like people constantly complaining about these indie bundles. Oh noes, 5 games for a dollar or 5, these bundles suck more and more! WHO THE FUCK CARES, don't buy it then, jeez.
So far I supported Double Fine's KS because I love adventure games, Wasteland 2 because I actually played a lot of the first Wasteland (my dad introduced me to it), and the Project TakeDown or whatever because I ADORED SWAT3/4.
Why go all hurpadurpa because of the many KS projects? If they suck they will fail either way. BUT without the free marketing they will fail even if the concept is interesting. So why not spread the word?

Should seriously get a kickstarter subsection if this gets worse.

Sadly it was only a matter of time before the scam artists showed up - luckily they were exposed quickly and efficiently and it brings to mind various questions about backer guarantees. I'm a wholehearted supporter of Kickstarter, I love the idea and I love the implementation - I'm already backing 4 titles myself - but it does make you wonder; just how safe is our money? Once funding passes for a really awesome-sounding title, what assurances do any of us have that we'll ever actually SEE the result?
Up until today I'd not really given it much thought and, luckily, the developers I'm currently backing are already world-renowned (with the exception of the Nekro project) but yeah.. worrying.
