Been playing the beta and quite enjoying the game. Leveled some with all chars just to get a feel and all of them were fun and it felt genuinely different and diverse.
One thing I found weird though is how weapons now are meaningless..all your skills use some other animation but base the damage on the weapon. For example, the monk is martial artist, his skills are all about punches and kicks...but you still have to equip him with a weapon because skills are based on the weapon's damage. So you walk around with sword and shield but when you attack it disappears and you see him punch and kick. Same with the Witch Doctor...you arm him with whatever but when you attack he is shooting darts.
I understand the reason they made it like that. Now all the skills are based on gear so they are relevant even in final stages of the game which is pretty cool. But it's sure pretty weird.

It's strange that you found DH boring. Maybe the vids didn't do him justice as the class has the most dynamic playstyle of them all IMO. You're constantly maneuvering and jumping around, placing traps and shooting from your double crossbows. I still like WD more, but DH is definitely going to be the second character I'll level to 60.

Aye, I found that all weird and it took me a while to get used to it as well .. but the more I played, the more I came to applaud the decision -- as it basically made loot more worthwhile At least now EVERY weapon has a use, rather than leaving me to discard four out of five kinds of weapons due to differing classes. |
Absolutely, I really like the way it changes the game. I just wonder if they could have come up with something more logical. It also takes something away - it's fun to find unique looking gear, but now you can use a broom because all that matters are the numbers behind it. It breaks immersion a little.

Yup, that's the part that took me a while to get used to. The armour is unique for each class, a heavy piece of plate mail will look radically different depending on who equips it, but weapons? As you say; they only adjust the attack damage, all the attack animation is still the same per class.

Yeah i'm mostly going by what i've seen from the beta vids which is early game. The first few levels certainly don't look very exciting. It's mostly shoot - shoot - kite - run - shoot -kite - shoot ect ect.
But you're right it's probably going to get better as you unlock skills , try builds ect.

not really.
high end weapons have + specific skills for example. (or that was change it ? )
you will not use generic/meaningless weapons in the end.

I certainly feels like weapons have been made redundant, I mean why even bother dropping weapons if they wont be see used. Instead drop signature skill modifiers a la runes.

Tried the beta now for a few days. Tbh I enjoy Path of Exile way more.
But ofcourse they are both in beta and I will still buy and enjoy D3.
But I expected a lot more I think, still pretty enjoyable (barbarian my favorite so far).

Well having an extremely hard time getting a beta key, been trying for weeks. Running out of ideas. Anyone have an extra key or a beta account that they are tired of? I will trade a Dota 2 beta steam gift for it.

That's exactly what I mean. I liked the new system, I think in the long run it's a better solution...but it's weird. I've read they remade the skill system after they started the beta...I guess that's the reason it feels rushed in this sense.

I've been playing the beta since the last friday. I've beaten all the content in the beta in just a day and a half, it was a great experience. One of the most polished H&S games ever.
But I do have some concerns... First of all, this game doesn't have the dark and groomy atmosphere of D1 and 2. There is blood all over but atmosphere is nothing compared to old games. I think it's because of most of the religious and satanic motives have been wiped due to censorship.
Second is that you don't have a reason to play the same class again... It's just swich the skill you're using and you're done! At least we could have enchanted the skills with runes, making them unique instead of switch&use as you like kinda system. But they're trying gettin rid of the skill change abuse with the naphalem valor buff. As you kill champion mobs and bosses, you're gonna gain a buff that increases the drop rate for all items. If you switch a skill, or exit the current game this buff wipes completely and you have to start from scratch. Actually it's a pretty good thought. But still... LEVELING is completely meaningless aside from it's duty of being a training for the 'real deal'(Nightmare, Hell and Inferno difficulties).
Anyway, it's still gonna be great. Especially when the PVP arena is added to the game we will have great games of 3v3 PVP. Even in the beta coop is fucking fun, especially when you're slaying the skeleton king.

Add the Kingdoms of amalur injector and it looks fucking old school, without the washed up colors.
I do miss the feel is the first Diablo. Fucking fairy tails ruining everything.

they removed the penalty for fucking up a build, actually they also did that in d2 with respecs. Nephalem is only there to add some sort of commitment, and the penalty for respecin isnt as huge as rerollin which is good for us i guess. from their PoV, it might also be so that past a certain point after release, everyone is @ endgame therefore everyone has a use for RMAH.. which is really good for them, people wouldnt spend a few bucks for items used for lvling but might for endgame.
ofc you always have the possibility of enjoying leveling chars thru hardcore mode.

For the beta? I can't imagine what kind of epic ending they could make. It's very limited (enough for a beta obviously).
