Ofc it is, the colors and all looks so washed and smeared.. the game is way too nice compared to D2s art and style. It should be more dark and atmospheric but we can all forget this now.
Like take this example.

I actually disagree on this. I'm really tired of monochromatic games. If you want the game darker just lower the gamma.
This is funny actually, 'cause recently we had a similar affair with Skyrim, but people took the opposite stance and add color into the game's pallid palette. But apparently Diablo 3 has to be grey and brown only. Says who?

I've been playing D3 with the InjectFXAA stuff... and it really does make it look a whole lot better, IMO. There's nothing wrong with having colour in the game, but stock D3 is just too cartoon'y -- it's like the visual style of FATE/Torchlight, only with the grim/serious/realistic models of Diablo. It's a jarring mishmash if you ask me.
That and the muggy textures that lack definition.
Luckily it's fixable with InjectFXAA - so I'm happy and, even from my very short play of the beta, I MUCH prefer D3 to PoE.

D3 lead designer looks at, and comments on, those ^^ fan-made images. It's actually a good read.

Indeed a good read, but that's also from 3 years ago (much less colourful now) and I'm sorry, but the game really does not look anywhere near as colourful as FATE/TL. Please show me a screenshot of what yours looks with and without the FXAA inject stuff (no D3 account myself atm to make a screenshot of my own). Probably should do that in the D3 thread though
Fact still remains that there's a lot of bullshit going around about this and D2. D2 was just as "colourful" as D3; all you gotta do is run out onto the moores and activate any random spell. Especially as a Paladin or Sorceress it's pretty fucking "cartoony". And like I said, PoE isn't more grim than D3. There's no comparing the two, because if I'm honest, PoE has a pretty good engine but a worthless art department. Very bland design (which results in barely visible enemies at times) and pretty bad animations. It didn't stop me from enjoying the game, but to say the game is darker is just nonsense.

I'm not fighting with you mate, you believe whatever you want to believe.. but those screenshots up there are accurate, whether you accept it or not. That's exactly what the game looks like and for some of us; it's too cartoony. So far the game is just set at night, so it's only going to be more pronounced once people start playing daylight areas.
.. but, again, this is just IMO. I already use FXAA to alleviate the issue and it works wonders. I'm not putting the game down so, please, put the claws away.

That's a quick customisable one, though I went back to using ixi's custom Amalur version since I prefer the contrast and colour selections. To see how the game looks, simply select "None" and then click the "Effect" and "Sharpness" buttons so that they're OFF.

^^
You like that kind of cartoony colour? Good for you... subjective and personal opinion is grand isn't it? Though, if I'm being completely honest, it's not the colour that really annoys me -- it's the blurriness and indistinctness of the visuals themselves, even with AA disabled. It looks like a water-colour painting and some people like that, but not me. I like a bit of sharpness, which is why I like InjectFXAA.

I don't really have an opinion about it, since I've not tried the game as I mentioned, definitely don't like WoW though. Don't really see why you should take offence at me planning to play D3 come release - thanks for the link regardless

This is my problem with D3's visuals as well. I never complained about its style. It doesn't matter anyway, since I won't be playing the game, not even pirated, unless somebody finds a way to mod it to hell and back so it feels like a singleplayer game and not a MMO.

I agree on the pastel look and i'll surely use an injector to add some crispness, but not on the colour thing. Tbh the only thing really bothering me right now is the lack of transparency on hovering items in your inventory.

I'd rather the colorful versions that the bland single color crap listed as "how it should look" Just my personal preference though.

Public stress test coming in a few days.
| Quote: |
Grinding Gear Games, the New Zealand developer of the much-anticipated action RPG Path of Exile, have announced that its Beta will be open to the public for stress testing this weekend: March 30-April 1. The game has previously been in a restricted Closed Beta test, and this public stress test will be the first opportunity for many patient fans to play Path of Exile.
The Path of Exile Beta servers will open for public access at 5pm PDT on Friday, March 30. Public access will end at 11:59pm PDT Sunday night, April 1. A full FAQ about the Public Weekend is available at its official website.
Featuring its own dark, gritty take on the Action RPG genre, a unique skill gem system and a complex passive skill tree, Path of Exile is on track to enter permanent Open Beta within a few months. PvP combat and cosmetic purchases are planned for the Open Beta.

Well it looks like this isn't going to be retail/gold for quite some time, as they're aiming for a permanent beta for everybody within a few "months"
