Yes, you can use a US giftcard code on your US account.. but only on the US one. It's all region locked.

Don't want to disencourage you, and maybe it's different in other regions or has changed. But my brother got a German Itunes gift card 2 years ago, and didn't have an Itunes account before that. He actually needed to provide a Credit Card (which he didn't have, and used mine, so that I know this for sure) to use the gift card, although nothing was charged obviously.

Yeah it is still like that, but there are loopholes, and I already have the US account.  |
