I never buy any software now that I haven't pre-tried, if its a *good* game or util then I don't mind paying for it & supporting its development. But I stopped being generically ripped off back in 1987 when I got into rips.
As a laugh guess how big - the bard's tale (1987) (interplay) - was 7.8Gb? nope it weighed in at 2.1Mb, several orders of magnitude lower than their latest bloatware offering Laughing

You wanted a Miracle, I give you the F. B. Eye !!

Wow, how cool ... 2 pages already, but full of useless comments ...

Anyway, I played the game for about 2 hours and I like it ... the voice acting is top notch, the action is very good (I don't know why people complain about the combat system, it works great), the ambiguity of the moral system guarantees a nice replay value and the humor made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion ...

True, the gameplay might be a little too simplistic for some, but if you have at least a bit of sense of humor and like hack & slash games, you'll probably enjoy The Bard's Tale (I did mention the guy is the perfect anti-hero, right?)

Those "scene d00ds" are l33t man! Laughing It's great fun to see their torrent-bashing"-information wants to be free, but only if you're l33t enough"-attitude... No worries though, they'll understand their lameness eventually..

or maybe you'll understand that bittorent and such is killing the scene as no new blood joins the groups (why get in touch with anyone if you can get anything you want anyways?)

back to the topic: game seems nice, completed the 1st "boss". hopefully someone will release a trainer soon

Sorry but you have no clue.. Do you really think people join groups to get new warez? People join groups because they share the same interest (cracking, coding etc) and to gain respect. I've never been a cracker or involved in the "scene" and i've been getting the latest warez since the C-64 period, it's never a problem if you're interested enough.

english, dutch, spanish and french.

Played the game briefly just then and it seemed pretty decent, very good humour.

As an example when you start the game a busty looking widow from the local tavern asks you to clear her cellar of rats, your character makes fun of this saying something along the lines of how original presumably referring to numerous sub quests which involve exactly the same thing in games such as Baldurs Gate.

The widow then says that if you do this she'lll find a place for you to lay your head which prompts the camera to zoom in on her breasts, she then makes mention of your characters sword being small - cue sexual innuendo from the main character.

Later on I went into her room and stole from her chest, the narrator/voice over in the game made some remark about being surprised it had taken this long to get close to her chest. Then the main character went into a speech about why in RPG's it is acceptable to open and steal from every chest in the game. Laughing

Have only played it very briefly but what I've seen so far is pretty decent, graphics are fairly nice and can be scaled right upto the max resolution with max AA/AF on and no slowdown which should be the case because its an RPG but just thought I would mention. Clearly its no Baldurs Gate but its not trying to be.

Has anyone tryed putting this onto a DVD5 or splitting the release across 2 DVD's? I presume that you would be able to do it by simply splitting the files across two discs with the same volume label and when installing the installer would prompt for the disc which contained the files from the second disc. i.e. put the main game installer on one disc with all files except for the 4 gig of sounds, 2nd disc obviously put the sounds - I'll try that out later though and see if it works. Smile

Now you know that's BS dude, and I can't be bothered to explain why it's discussed extensively elsewhere.

On topic highly disappointing game, especially for those who remember the original first time around.

I tryed just then with without success - when the installer comes to looking for the files that I placed on a second disc (the sounds files) instead of simply prompting for you to "insert the disc labelled THE_BARDS_TALE which contains "X" files" the installer simply skips over them and continues installing the files that are on the disc. I used my own created iso's from my HD mounted on d-tools so that I didn't waste discs so no harm done.

Its a funny one to call, for me it looks like the installer is simply copying the files from the discs straight into program files so im wondering if doing that manually would work or making a homemade installer using installshield. Tryed ripping the files which I could clearly identify as foreign language as well but could only pick out around 2.0-2.5 gigs of data which I don't think is enough to reduce it to DVD 5.

Im just gonna go for the easy option and spread the rars across 2 DVD's and whenever I want to play its simple enough to just extract the full .iso from the discs to HD. Smile Im sure someone will think of something though.

Enjoyed the part with the large spider when the bard runs upstairs on fire and everyone starts laughing at him Laughing

For people who still don`t know if to download it or not, here`s a review from other site :

gunhero wrote:
gave it a try..

funny first that i encounter when i start it up is a bug..
no sound! lol
for some reason the game has set everything in the options to 0..
that goes for sound and gfx.. so had to bump all that shit up..

anyway so the game starts and well the gfx are pretty nice.
not next gen or anything but pretty nice for a diablo type game in 3d..
infact this game is very very much like the baldurs gate games for xbox.. if my spider senses are tingling correctly id say this IS indeed the baldurs gate xbox engine..
water moves in the exact same way. animation system is the same. the way textures are placed etc..

anyway on to the gameplay.. this game is kinda like.. imagine diablo mixed with monthy python..
the game is overall hilarious.. great writing and excellent dialouge.. very very funny.
almost on par with some old lucasarts adventure game..
voice acting is very good aswell.. but the technical side of the recordings isnt so good.. like the sound editor hasnt done any enviormental effects on dialouge and it even cuts out sometimes making it sound like a lazy copy paste job at times..

controls are very good.. you point and click where to go and click the other button to attack..
you also have magics that can summon diffrent types of creatures that aid you in battle..
also you can get diffrent people to follow you.. so far a little puppy is my companion and its really funny to see it run after me and waving its little tale at me..

music overall is pretty good too and sound effects are alright.

i stumbled upon a game stopping bug in the game about 10 minutes into it..
there is this old guy that gives you a weapons tutorial and when you do it you have to use this command to summon a creature but you cant do it because the game for some wierd reason has locked out the command box..
really dumb, either that or im just to stupid to figure it out..
anyway luckily you could choose skip tutorial so.. i could continue..

another complaint is that the FMV in the game are truly horrible.. cant belive the iso is 8 gb and they look like pure shit.. so blurry and disgusting.. nasty nasty compression.

anyway if you like hack n slash games like diablo and brit humor like monthy python this is def a game for you..

these games are very very hard to rate because when it comes down to it you cant really judge RPG“s before youve beat them because of the story..
but so far ive played it about an hour and i have to say it seems like a very good game.

8+/10

There's something called "demo", in most cases.

Many artists have downloadable audio clips, and many online stores too (amazon etc).. again, just bad excuses really Smile

Bull-Shit, would you buy a car if the dealership just handed you a loose door?
Would you buy meat for that BBQ if the store only allowed you to see the packaging?

You can sit and argue all day long. But in the end, all the bullshit posted in this forum will not change a simple fact: piracy is illegal. Not because it's immoral. Also, don't use this argument about buying meat in the store, as it means precisely dick. Piracy is illegal because it's against the law. At least in this country it is. You can sit blue in your face until you die, that won't change the fact that you are breaking the law. And when you break the law, you pay fines or go to jail.
So, we all know what we are doing here, so stop all this bullshit.

By the way, you can try my meat anytime, babe.

Thanks starshine, didnt bother looking in start menu.

Hey is anyone else having a problem with "Heroine", not being able to summon her? I have the tune, press 2 then S but all that happens is the bard flashs his sword. WTF.

Does anyone know what the left and right triggers on the xbox controller are for? I want to test the xbox codes but I need to know what keys are the ones on the controller

Go to Usenet Manager tab, make sure you aren't connected to any servers, right-click your server in the list, Edit Server, change Connections to however many bots you want running at once to that server. I find 4 is sufficient to keep my downstream maxed all the time.

Best thing about Newsleecher is the way it handles priority on multiple nntp servers so you can get files from a free server before using up Easynews (or whatever you use) bandwidth.

I'd give the game about an 8 out of 10 so far. Voice acting is really good, and the graphics aren't nearly as bad as some people have said once you realize the game defaults to 640x480 and it can't be changed in-game. Main problem is the combat system lacks major depth outside of choosing which summons to use. Doesn't really matter what weapon you use, and the special attacks other than riposte/parry/shield bash are mostly worthless. The only bug I've found is that they've got some bad graphics code in there somewhere--whenever that "shaded line" effect is on screen the framerate goes into slow motion mode (i.e. the world map, anytime the princess is on screen, heavy rain in town, etc.). Doesn't matter what settings I choose in graphics options--min or max and I get the slowdown, everywhere else the game runs fine with everything on max.
