Hi all,
I've been looking around for TVs for my PC that will be used when I play games or watch HD movies. I'd like to go for a Full HD TV.
My budget is about $1000 USD, though since I'm buying it in Israel the prices are usually a little bit higher than they are abroad, so take that into account. But if the price is only slightly higher it might still be fine!
I just don't know what to look for in a TV for my computer. First of all I think I'd like a LED TV if its image quality is actually better. Should I care about the refresh rates? Any special TV->PC compatibility sign I should look for? (Dlna? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Living_Network_Alliance)
How could I be sure that my TV would not have any input lag while connected to the PC?
Important : The main and even only source of input for this TV is going to be my PC.

TV as PC monitor = Fail.
Why do you not get a nice monitor?

Because it looks like shit.
You may think your telly looks great but guaranteed it looks shit next to even a low end 1080p monitor..
Viewing a movie etc from a distance, it's fine sure.
But close up as monitor displaying your desktop/web content etc... it's nasty.
Even the best quality TV's are no good. the pixel density alone completely ruins it.
This would be way better.
Using US store and the budget given.

the reason you can get a 42" TV for the price of a 24-30" monitor is that a monitors pixel grouping is MUCH tighter, made for up close clarity.you ever stop to think "hmm why is a TV 2x the size, with speakers, cable tuner, various inputs AND outputs is the same price as a smaller PC monitor?" thats why...costs MUCH less to make when your pixels per sqaure inch is 1/4 to 1/2 the count.
a TV using much wider spread between the pixels can keep the cost the same by having to cram far less pixels in the same square inch of area. as they have a LOT more area to fill with the same number of pixels.
can tell you first hand, on my 24" monitor here, and the one I use to have at my old job. my dads 36" TV hes using as a monitor (that cost more than my 24") is WAY worse looking.
When im over there working on his PC, it almost feels like Im looking at the picture through a screen door. I cant "SEE" the division between the pixels on a pixel by pixel basis..but I can surely "tell' something doesn't feel right about the way they look.

My intention for this TV is not for reading texts, or replacing my current PC monitor. The new TV is in addition to my current monitor, and will be used only for Full HD gaming and watching movies while sitting on the Sofa. So it shouldn't be a problem.
So you guys got any recommendations for such a TV?

My LG 47LE5300 is a 47inch led and has a pc mode, and i bought it for just 800euro.i use it as my main monitor for almost a year.this includes Photoshop,3D modelling, video cut and effect work, watching movies, playing games, reading lots and lots of hump threads.
i suppose that there are even better ones out there from lg by now.the only thing that i miss is that i should have gone for the 5500 which has dlna:)
A friend used his Samsung as secondary TV but he had that thing on the wrong settings for 2 years lol, until i fixed it for him, but it still did not have the clarity of my LG.
I don't say that this replaces a good 22"monitor for Photoshop but it's a very good alternative:)
If you get it, set your TV to expert mode and leave the menu.press in the input button, select the hdmi input where your computer is plugged in and press the blue button.select PC from the list.voila, minimum input lag and post processing, perfect for fast 3D gaming:)

Well I guess I'm blind then but it looks great in my eyes, I see zero problems on my end. No blurriness, no problems at all... As I said, yes, an expensive pc monitor (in comparison with the price for my TV) would be ideal but I'm not made out of money and I want a 30+ inch so.
I still don't see how it's fail though. I play games all the time and they look great, I've no problem with browsing the web and reading web content, everything is very clearly readable. Isn't it just a matter of preference here? I guess for me, the price difference is enough for me to decide on this TV in comparison to the expensive alternative. |
The quality loss as a monitor is massive.
You really do have bad eyesight if you don't see the HUGE difference.
Not just from expensive monitors but even the cheapest 1080p 23-24" screens.
