if you follow the laws of physic, it COULD work flawlessly.
its technicly that is the problem.
Electric impulses travel at near speed of light (95-97% in unshielded copper)
thats like 3.3ms for 1000km if im not wrong.
the problem is indeed everything in between, but not the physical laws
Those physical laws have to take into account everything in between. Attenuation, interference, traffic, router switching, etc.
Those all take time, even on a clean line.
That's a great speed on an unbroken line directly to Onlive's servers, but I doubt they'll be running everyone a personal line.
Onlive has never been realistic in the internet climate of today. Between oversold services and bandwidth caps, it just has no place.
and now we've come full loop back to the point illustrated above, although it should work well, there's typically always another weak link just down the line.
You guys won't be playing quake 3 with onlive:) but for strategy, adventure and some simulation games it might be just the right thing.could test it yesterday and it was ok indeed.i had some lag but i connected through the company network which routes from Germany to UK, so that i was able to join the test at all:)
I was just playing some onlive today and noticed that it really got much better. Latency is much lower than last time I was toying with it.
And I love arena showcase. ppl are actually playing darksiders2 on bad 720p stream

I was playing it this afternoon, so it is possible. And the delay was way lower than year ago. But still, there was a huge delay and video compression was bad.
but I can imagine how it could be playable for some total noob whoes ignorance is bliss

Onlive is the first to ever do this and they have done a pretty good job, especially with all the nay sayers regarding their ability to encode the video and deliver it at lightning fast speeds. For where I live and testing onlive, the lag was pretty much unoticeable. The only issues I ran into were the stream would go blocky every so often. But this type of experience is the future of gaming, probably moreso in 10-20 years but this eliminates a lot of cheating and piracy issues as well as game design for "pc" becomes trivial as you do not need to create multiple detail settings and compatible coding for different pieces of hardware.

Says the guy with 31 posts when everyone else is saying there is still lag and bad video..
I knew this would happen from the start. There i just no way to do this. Until we hit some new kind of internet backbone technology and then new last mile technology this will never happen.

We can now confirm that the assets of OnLive, Inc. have been acquired into a newly-formed company and is backed by substantial funding, and which will continue to operate the OnLive Game and Desktop services, as well as support all of OnLive's apps and devices, as well as game, productivity and enterprise partnerships.
