It makes perfect sense. Batman never kills, remember? |
im not saying it doesnt make sense... in fact as i said, only a wuss like batman would think it was bad...
im talking about MY point of view, as the gamer. i have to be invested in the story. surely i cant be the only one thinking that as far as epic evil plans that must be stopped, that this one fell really flat. i mean no innocents were in danger, the world wasnt going to blow up... just some Spoiler: | crims were going to die | , it was really disappointing when it was revealed.
surely i wasnt the only one here who felt that this just wasnt very satisfying as an EVIL plan that needed stopping? surely...? |
I completely agree with you. I just finished the main story and i was waiting the whole time for some kind of secret plan that goes with Protocol 10. I mean after the countdown you feel like something epic will happen. The best part is the city allowed him to do it
Actually this policy of never killing anyone is a bit weird, i mean why is anyone afraid of him? Oh my god there's Batman, if i don't manage to kill him he'll just knock me out and put me in jail where my boss will break me out and we'll do it all over again. If i was a criminal i'd go to Gotham... No wonder the Joker is always bugging him, if he knows all he's going to get is a couple of bruises...
They should do a Batman goes Insane game, where he just goes on a killing spree of Gothams badguys.

Protocol 10 is definitely not active in Gotham City, Strange had to ask for clearance to use it in Arkham City in the first place.. unless shit started to happen in Gotham as well, he can't possibly have got clearance to use it there or hell; even have a reason to want to use it there.
The Protocol 10 plot point was a rehash of Batman Begins IMO (likely people will correct me that a similar plot has appeared before the movie in comics, but I don't read them so I wouldn't know.., and at the very least Batman Begins should be the most recent incarnation of this plot)

Spoiler: | that strange wants to "legally" kill gothams villians... is that right? THAT is the EVIL plan? to kill the BAD GUYS?! thats just so frustratingly stupid, because i prefer the movies i watch and games i play to have an evil story that i can understand and WANT to invest my time in stopping because its so terrible... but this? fuck, kill criminals? have at it dude, dont let me stop you!
but this? ONLY a wuss like batman could think a plan like this was bad. unless im missing something... because that was a really weak 'evil plan story' to be honest.. |

Well, I remember during a conversation with Oracle, she raised a similar point "lulz wh0 carez d00d" and batman said but not every guy in Arkham City is a criminal, there are a lot of political prisoners, that had done nothing wrong, but since Strange didn't like them, he had them moved to Arkham City.

As consolitis points out, not everyone in Arkham city is evil. Batman himself pointed that out several times during the game and you actually have to save some of those people. It would also set a precedent leading to ethical discussions like "who decides who's evil or not".
You can do SQs after the MQ btw.

i think realistically the best way to play this game is to play it from the point of view that batman is actually the bad guy. game suddenly makes so much more sense that way... like hes trying to protect the crims from the good guys
re: the handful of good guys in arkham city... eh, i mean come on. saving 10 or so politicals in a place where there are HUNDREDS of bad people, and some of them are super villains responsible for the deaths of many many people - like i said, i UNDERSTAND why a wuss like batman would have a problem with it... all im saying, is from the point of view of the player... it just doesnt have much impact. it really doesnt seem like such a massive deal, when MILLIONS of others arent even threatened - more than that, they would BENEFIT from this.
again, i understand batman is a pussy. all im bringing up is from my point of view, i felt the big "reveal" of what it was all about, kinda had me going "yeah? is that ALL?! so what!..."
and i just want to stress, im not saying i hated the game, or even the story - i found teh game really enjoyable. all im saying is that from my point of view, as the one playing the game and working my way through the story, i felt that the whole plan when it was revealed, wasnt really satisfying as far as plans-we-are-supposed-to-think-are-evil-and-must-be-stopped go

Batman may not kill you, but he has no qualm about crippling the fuck out of you.
And considering how many limbs Batman breaks through the night, and how much brain trauma he causes I'm sure at least some died from complications as there are no hospitals within Arkham City and all medical personnel are either captured, hiding or dead.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

You're assuming the evil ones, Joker etc, are actually affected by hte protocol. I doubt it, Strange just targets their puppets, the useless people.

Considering Strange's partner in this was
Spoiler: | Ra's al Ghul, that legitimately believes in killing all those evil |
the super-villains would definitely be targets.

The protocol wasn't exactly precise. The super villians weren't in Arkham City because they were locked up, I thought they were there because they wanted to be there. A super villiain is smart enough to split when shit hits the fan I think.

no, they were there because they were shifted from whatever prisons or whatever other places (like AA) they were currently in
P10 was very precise. EVERYONE in AC, and strange used all the pull and influence he could to make sure they would ALL be there.

If you read the background stories you'll see that most of those super villians are impossible to keep in prison since they can basically do whatever they want.
Our debating is useless of course since we're just interpreting the situation differently.

Meh its this Batman mentality that everyone has to live, so they then kill more innocent people. I just think he doesn't want all the baddies to die since then he wouldn't have anything to do. C'mon the guy is even sad at the end.
He should just take Ra's place, marry Talia and kill badguys...
Doesn't help that Protocol 10 is basically the same as Batman Begins only much less evil.
Also (this is purely IMO) i thought they put too many characters in the story. It's a bit unfocused since half the time i didn't really know who the main bad guy is. The game wants it to be Strange, but he's just not dangerous or evil enough.

There isn't a main bad guy. It's a bunch of sub-stories revolving around several villians with an overarching plot regarding Strange. I personally liked the idea and thought it worked well.

Bleh, i have the insane audio stuttering in the cutscenes. I didnt mind and played anyway... Now i just defeated Ra Ghul and the screen stays black -_- When i now try to launch the game i get a SecureROM error... Could it be that after fighting Ra Ghul there is a SecureROM check wich hasnt been cracked properly? I'm using the steam unlocked version btw. Even after re-aplying the update + crack i keep getting this message (code 6005). Looks like SecureROM locked my game when reaching Ra Ghul or is this just a coincidence -_-

I got a problem. There's a riddler trophy I a) have no clue how to get and b) can't find in any guide.

You can see the half sunken Gotham Casino sign from it.
It's got 6 question marks on two different levels that I assume you have to hit but I have no clue how to do it. Or do I have to hit them in the right order? :/

now that i look back on it, the only thing that really had an emotional impact (and a really good one, at that) on me, was the ending.
Spoiler: | joker dying... i know you can say that no one really dies in comics and writers can always write characters back to life n shit, but i believe hamil said that this was the last time he was doing joker, so it really is the end for THE joker as far as im concerned... he really IS dead, and that really does make me quite sad.. the ending really was quite emotional for me. i wasnt crying or anything but yeah.... it was powerful and sad.
some like batman and think hes awesome, but to me, the joker... HAMILS joker, has always been the most badass thing in the batman story, and without him... batman just kinda feels.. lesser to me, you know?
what a downer. epic, powerful and sad. i didnt care about any of the other junk or any of the other villians, it was batman vs joker that made the game for me.
goodbye, joker. ill miss you |

I don't understand the debate about the lackluster story and Batman being the "bad guy". We have a classic Batman story here: Spoiler: | Ra's al Ghul wants to execute criminals, Batman wants to stop him - not to save the criminals but to let them serve their sentences and atone for their crimes. | This is what Batman always was about and fits in his general conflict with Spoiler: | Ra's al Ghul. |

for the last time, i dont think anyone here is saying its not IN CHARACTER for batman.
all im saying was that it wasnt very satisfying (for me) for an evil scheme.
i mean no one that matters is being threatened, the world (or even the city) is not in jeopardy, and after the night is through, no one will be in danger... its an evil scheme without the 'threat', thats what it is, and while im not saying everyone has to dislike it, im saying that for ME.. when an evil plot lacks any real THREAT to anyone who matters, then i just dont find it satisfying.
its in keeping with the batman character, yes, no one is debating that, but when theres no threat or danger to the public... when its JUST. NOT. VERY. EVIL. it just feels like its a waste of time (following the story i mean, not playing the game - WHICH I DID ENJOY)
JOKERS plan though, DID have have real threat, real menace behind it, and hence i found THAT sidestory so much more interesting and worthwhile investing myself in.

Spoiler: | Talia is betrayed by Batman.
She gets kidnapped because of him.
She still tries to save Batman.
She is "the only person Batman ever loved" according to Ra's.
She gets fucking killed by Joker.
Joker dies.
Batman takes in his arms Joker's body and walks outside like a boss.
And not a single fuck was given about the dead Talia.

Put explosive gel on the bottom 3, then go on top of the opposite building and detonate them, then use the quickfire batarang to hit the top 3.

FUCK the final catwoman/two-face fight. seriously
im so used to batman for the bulk of the game, with all his gear and using his tactics n shit, then i get dumbed with this useless chick and everything goes to shit
i still got through it, but jeez, what a total gameplay switch... like i had to relearn everything.
i DID enjoy that big fight just before it though, with the 20 or so bad dudes (dunno the actual number) - THAT was pretty fun i gotta say.
