LotR are better movies. SW had a huge impact on popular culture, spawned a massive franchise and yada yada, but objectively speaking they aren't what I'd call great movies. And Lucas scored some major minus points with the new trilogy, will just have to see how The Hobbit fares.
Love them both very much, but Lord of the Rings is imo better, because I read the books which are still a great read, and I can re read them any time without a second thought.
But I do like the SW universe, the force, lightsabers (every nerd kids wet dream xD)...

LotR because I just fucking love the books, but Toni has a point
We got the JO/JA series thanks to SW, although in recent years SW games have been shit

I'm with Inz on this one . I obviously still like SW a lot but today I recognize that from a technical standpoint the movies are..well quite weak.
I gave my vote to Lord of the Rings just because Lucas is a massive fuck-up. All those stupid alterations.. I love Star Wars, it is an extremely tough vote, but the alterations men..

I really, really didn't like LOTR books (And I read them all). Surely I appreciate how much of the fantasy stuff Tolkien came up with, but seriously, I finished LOTR books because I just felt I needed to finish them, not because I liked them. They were horrible IMO.
Same with the movies, they dragged on for fucking EVER. And no, I'm not a "hurr durr where are my action scenes" kind of guy, besides, the battles were fantastic in LOTR movies.
And Star Wars I just simply don't like, and I watched the "trilogy".

Hmm... Star Wars vs LotR. That's one evil poll. Star Wars is classic and changed the world to some extent. LotR on the other hand was so amazing that it will become a classic.
I chose LotR simply because it's universe is richer in lore and depth where Star Wars was basically simple space opera (albeit awesome).
Lord of the rings. The call would've been closer if it weren't for how diluted Star Wars became with the prequels and the shitty ass MMO. I'm so tired of the entire Star Wars-concept, a pity because SW: KOTOR 1 and 2 (2 esp. with the restoration mod) were frickin' awesome.
