Currently I'm writing from samsung galaxy s+. It's from my sisters boyfriend/husband. The mobile kicks ass. I know that comparing to s2 or new s4 it's weak, but for the price range it's awesome!
I think I'll try to convince my parents to buy me one xD The only problem is that I'd have to go to Austria to buy it, there it's 250€ and here it's over 300€ and I don't want to sign any stupid 2 yr contract... I so need to start freelancing...

I'm planning on buying a smartphone too these days (never owned one), since my Nokia 6151 is so prehistoric. The Galaxy would be my #1 choice indeed, and iphone is definitely not an option

S2 is dropping in price pretty fast. 360 euro for a new one.
But honestly I bought S1 a month before S2 came out and I feel no need to replace it with S2. |
Yeah, I'll probably wait some more weeks if I don't find the super-convenient offer  |

Hehe there's the trick!: my father needs to make a contract because of his job (salesman), and that contract would include a medium-range smarthphone (don't know which models though).
It isn't tied to his number so I can easily take the new phone, since he already owns an old one which is more than enough for him 
There's also the possibility to grab a more expensive phone such as the S2 with a major discount, and that would be the most interesting aspect |

Yep the SGS2 costs around 400€ now and is a real bargain. I got it for 30€ though and yes it is on a 2 yr contract, but I just pay 10€ for the phone ... that makes a total of 270€ over two years And I pay 20€ for unlimited internet (speed cap after 500mb per month), unlimited messaging (international not included), unlimited free calls within my operator...

I think this is the best smartphone for the money atm.
It has some tiny drawbacks like no flash on camera, but it still is a great phone.
Now I just need a plan to make my parents buy me one :hmmm:
S2 is great, but waaaay to expensive for me.
The deals you get in Cro with these T-Com bastards or other mobile providers are retarded imo. In the end you end up paying twice the cost of your mobile/smartphone in the course of two years... Not worth it imo...

Don't get the S+ btw, it has a better processor but a worse gpu. Plus community sucks ass. Get the Galaxy S instead. Its cheaper, and there is a better chance you will get ICS.

Galaxy S has S-LCD whereas S+ has SAMOLED... And I don't intend to play games on the phone...

Nope, they have a same screen.
If you intend to change the rom to a much better one I strongly advise the Galaxy S. If you don't intend doing that and you just want a plug and play phone then go with the S+. It will probably perform better, cpu wise.
But again, the dev support is huge for the S and you can make the phone perform even better than the S+. And there is already ICS alpha out.

Does the S+ have the weird amoled setup from the galaxy S? Where you'd have twice the green sub pixels resulting in uneven vertical lines?
The Nokia N9 with meego has a similar weird amoled setup.
