The male counterpart of your pink flower may be the Amorphophallus Titanum, simply called penisplant in Dutch 
It will bloom (i.e. produce the huge rod in the center) only once in every ten years or so. Ironically, this plant is infamous for it's incredible strong scent of rotting meat  Pictured here at the Leidsche Hortus

Yeah the rotting meat scent is because it uses flies for cross pollination, rather then bees/wasps/hummingbirds.
