For my grandfather 
Got you thinking I already went to upgrade my system again, didn't I?
Anyway, I built my grandfather his first PC *ever* from old parts about 5 years ago, 3 years ago I built a new one (P3 -> P4, still with a glorious Voodoo 1). Now that one has broken down and rather than giving him some used crap again, I decided to build something 
Considering my grandfather doesn't need much, I went with a socket 1155 ASUS barebone; my HTPC is also based off an ASUS barebone (with the glorious GF9400 <3 inside). That was a good experience, as that barebone (one of the Pundits) had a good layout, came with all cabling etc.
Anyway, full list:
- Intel Pentium G620 (dual core, 2.6 GHz)
- Asus Vintage V6-P8H61E
- Samsung Spinpoint F3 250GB
- 2x2GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
Why the RAM overkill? Because that's my old kit which I've had lying around for some time. I could sell it, but I'd barely make 10 EUR off of it, so I figured I might as well stick it in this thing

Like with my HTPC, the barebone comes with SATA cables (angled ones), screws and everything. It looks awesome as well, better than it did on the photos I looked at. 4 x SATA, 2 x Molex and 1 x Floppy on the PSU cabling, not bad either. The ATX power is routed like that straight out of the box which is quite nice, and the case fan is also standard. The damn thing is absolutely DEAD SILENT; both fans at 800 RPM, CPU running at 28 degrees in a 20 degree room.
Grand total for all of this? 225 Euros 
Only thing it "lacks" is a card reader (which the barebone would've had for 20 EUR more, but my grandfather won't use it anyway) and an optical drive; I'll be reusing his old optical drive. He'll be a damn happy 79-year old when I drop this off

Does he game from time to time? Cause if not, you could've slithered him over some new and cheap laptop for that matter. Even though, the money spent on the new rig is beyond satisfying.

This is cheaper than any half-decent laptop I could find and definitely faster 
But no, he doesn't game at all apart from some card games and some Flash games now and then. At 200 EUR, best I can find are all 10" Netbooks; hardly matches up to this system + his 19" TFT 
Closest I could get with a laptop would start at 300 EUR and that would still be inferior to this; he wouldn't use a laptop properly anyway, he'd still have it sitting stationary.
It's just that this will handle anything I can throw at it aside from hardcore gaming like Sabin says, yet it is only half as expensive as my HTPC was 3+ years ago

Browser and flash-based gaming will be a breeze, even on that iGPU, and it's even capable of 1080p decoding - so it's a movie machine too. I'm impressed! Nicely done Werelds, I'm sure he's going to love it!
