Today I read a press release that WikiLeaks wills stop with publishing for the time being. Then I started to wonder what is the current situation with Mr. Assange?
Seems he is still in the UK on bail and still fighting the extradition to Sweden. So what's the deal here? He is still fighting the extradition because he is somehow guilty or does he face a possible extradition to the USA in Sweden that apparently is not possible from the UK directly?
What do you think?

in sweden he will be prosecuted for rape. And as we all know, guilty or not, those trials are not that fun for a person, as they expose your full sexual life.
I guess he gets to be the scapegoat by releasing the international wires... If you are against everything, you can expect everybody to be against you. That is the way he chose to take. In the end, if he plays it clever, he will succeed and be an important figure in the history books. If he fucks up, he ends up as a homeless bum in a dumpster.
Time will tell.

he's gonna quietly return to sweden, accept a deal for a suspended prison sentence of 2 months, travel to hedeby island and solve the mystery disapperance of harriett vangar, then he will reemerge and expose everybody and live happily ever after
atleast i think so, i haven't read the second or third book yet

Yeah but can the UK extradite him to the USA? I think not, the USA has an extensive agreement with the UK so all of you (Britons) can be extradited if you are a suspicious person. He on the other hand is an Australian citizen. So how is the extradition law in Sweden?

US has cozier extradition laws with UK than Sweden. So if they wanted him extradited they would have asked the UK, I think.
It's pretty interesting to see the charges against him haven't been dropped yet. I guess the Swedish political system is deeper in US pockets than I originally thought.

Indeed. We can't legally sell arms to countries at war either.. but guess whom our biggest customer is. Sweden is extremely pragmatic first and foremost, laws and principles be damned. It's a fucking disgrace, but there it is.

But the question remains, can he be extradited to the USA if he gets extradited to Sweden?
