It will run alrite, but its manufactures have to work with mobile operators to bring such a update.
Just saying. My LG LG2x, only got gingerbread update because there was major lawsuit agaist tmobile+LG...or else would be still stuck on Froyo..and it's only 2.3.3 which does not include google voice+video chat.
I'm sceptical, which phones will get it..

I don't think manufacturers will even bother but there will be lots of custom roms.
Quote: | Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior. |

I always heard that the SGS II will get ICS too... So was this an announcement by Samsung? Will there be an official ICS from them? That would be great, the video player of touch wiz is great If they'd have something similar good on Cyanogen I'd switch instantly

Why wait for official release?
The custom roms will have it in time for sure.

I've used their phones before from friends and at the store, I really don't like it at all. Just a clutter of...whatever you can call it, it's like mini post it notes all over the place.

Well, I like the feel of WP7.5, but it's so tight and locked. If it was open like WinMo or Android, I'd be on that in zero thought.

The phones themselves were nice. I forget which one was at verizon but the build was so tight and nice. That's why I loved the OG Droid, it was like a tank, it was plastic but it was like, super off world tough plastic lol

This is Google's fault really, another one of these countless imperfections that make the Android a very undesirable OS. Apple does what it does with their own phones, but take Microsoft for example. With WP7, they are making hardware manufacturers push updates to all phones regardless of release time. Now, obviously as more generations of WP7 phone with different hardware pile up, there will be a limit. But with Android 4, it is said any phone with 2.3 can support and run it properly. Where is Google to enforce? Until Google gets hands on with such things, as well as enforcing some UI consistency, then no thanks.

Its an open source product, I don't know why google should enforce anything. And we are talking about one company and 4 very similar phones vs multiple companies and shitload of different phones.

Google themselves said it, any Gingerbread (2.3) capable device can run 4.0. This is just greed by hardware manufacturers which can easily be solved with a stricter set of guidelines. Open source my ass. Where is the source of 3.0? Oh look, WP7 is also open source, because portions of the .NET behind Silverlight are open source. Oh great, so is iOS, as it has a Unix kernel.

Sure.
Well, it is not a bad OS, with WinCE foundation. But as long as it is as tight as a Asian petite's ass, it is preposterous.

I did not say same, interface, I said design guidelines. It is exactly lIke Windows vs. Linux. On Windows you have freedom but there are guidelines which people follow and there is consistency. On the other hand, on Linux there is so much mess, what with various toolkits and all that shit. Android is keen to keep that tradition.

Again, its open source, you can't put any rules. I also think there should be some sort of consistency, but no one can enforce that, and no one should.

Just because something is supposedly open source, doesn't mean there can't be order. No one uses the shit on Windows, so more and more developers make their open source stuff compatible with Windows motifs. As examples, take Firefox and Chromium. Remember how bad Firefox use to look like? Even Mozilla caved in. Tucking your head in the "open source" sand as a method for apologizing for shoddy software is unacceptable and ridiculous.

So you should blame the devs who make the apps with shitty design, I don't know how Google is responsible for that. Mozilla did that to better their product, not to satisfy Microsoft. Google is setting the standard with their gapps, especially with ICS, but they can't say either make the apps my way or we won't accept them in the market. That's apple, not Google.
