Here we go, it's happening again Crying or Very sad, though this time is quite different.

Everything was working perfectly fine until yesterday night; now the PC doesn't boot up anymore, giving me a blank screen and a sequence of four beeps (one long beep followed by three short ones). :/

All the fans seem to be functional though (unlike the last time that I had similar problems), the HDD is operative and removing the memory banks doesn't make any difference.

After having googled a bit I've found out that it might really be a video card related issue, maybe it's fried? :S (unfortunately I don't have any other card here to test, so mine is just a wild guess)

These beep codes indicate something's wrong with the card.

Don't you have a close-by friend/neighbour with a spare old PCI-E card?

Yeah I've done that, still nothing though. :/

Exactly, that's what I thought too. Sadly my closest friends aren't gamers, and many of them don't even own a home PC Crying or Very sad

I guess the only thing to do is go to my local store and try another random PCI-e card, it seems to be the easiest way to locate and isolate the problem.

That is definitely a videocard problem. Take your 4870 to your retailer and ask them if you can take home a 20 EUR card just to test while leaving your 4870 there or something. My retailer didn't even ask for that when my 8800 broke, I just said I had nothing to confirm that it was the videocard and they gave me some piece of shit just to test Smile

Tried everything, the beeps are still there. Sad It's like the PC can't properly recognize the video card anymore, it's kinda weird since the card itself doesn't seem to be completely dead...oh well, I'll go to my retailer later hoping that he can give me a test card

Guess this kinda solved what those Rage artifacts were then.
(Potential GPU damage.)

Unfortunate, maybe Rage is what killed the GPU even, heh.
(4000 series has poor VRM modules that seems to break easily, my 4870X2 died that way.)

Hehe, the funny thing is that yesterday evening I finally managed to make the game run flawlessy without artifacts, played for a couple of hours, shut down the PC and today the 4870 appears to be dead...I think you're right, Rage killed it Laughing Crying or Very sad

Hmm i smell conspiracy from AMD to get you to buy a new card...

First they make it not work with rage, then they make it work to let you feel how the game is, then they pushed button to make your videocard go dead... Razz

Single HD 6970 and you are set for your eyefinity? Ok, make it CF if you want to play with decent fps newest games.
