UE3 for Flash http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/04/epic-and-adobe-announce-unreal-engine-3-support-for-flash-11/

We’ve been working closely with Adobe on this technology for quite some time and today we are revealing it publicly. A few months ago when we decided we would do a demo for this event, we weren’t sure what we were going to show. The first content we decided to try in Flash was “Epic Citadel” and it ran amazingly well – better than we expected it would, considering how early on this was. But we began thinking that maybe a demo of content designed for mobile was setting expectations too low and we should aim higher.

So what did we do? We chose as our demo a fully playable level from Unreal Tournament 3 and it turned out to look even better than the version we shipped on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with improvements like global illumination, better shadows, and god rays! We’re not just talking about triple-A console quality on the web, we’re actually showing it onscreen, in a web browser, playing inside Flash!

Quote:
We plan to continue working closely with Adobe and the long-term goal is to be able to bring amazing Samaritan-like experiences, and beyond, to web browsers through Flash.

It's also 60 FPS!

A video of the demonstration here:

Cliff Bleszinski wants to produce less linear/scripted games

LOL

Quote:
In a massive interview with TheVerge, Bleszinski has shared his dream of Epic’s future games. And did you know that Cliff hates those linear games? Well he does, which seems awkward, given the fact that GoW is also linear. As Cliff said:

“My favorite games lately are the ones when you come into a hallway and you are like, ‘Oh, how did that dungeon instance turn out for you?’ ‘Oh, well I went in as a mage and I did this or I snuck entirely through that one,’ or, ‘I haven’t even seen that, where is that.’ As opposed to, ‘Yes, I came around the exact same corner, and I saw the exact same tower fall, and I saw the exact same experience.’ And if you look at it from a production standpoint, the fancy falling tower in the scripted experience is actually much more expensive but it yields far less of the actual gameplay.”

Quote:
According to Cliff, so many games these days, with their campaigns, feel like the game designer is chasing you with a sharp pointed stick saying that something will about to happen.

O RLY?

Quote:
Cliff concluded that he wants more interaction to his games, as well as a gameplay similar to Skyrim that can offer new and extraordinary experiences:

“The amount of viral videos we sent around of Skyrim of millions of wheels of cheese going down a mountain or a frozen bear that flies off into space — it is just golden. You want a game where programmers are like, ‘How did that happen? Did I even code that?’ That is when things are great and we had that in many ways with Unreal Tournament [with] emerging gameplay [like] teleporting and the translocator. I want to get all of our games back towards that in the future.”

Now there's really future for the gaming industry! Laughing

That will be true I think. Facebook games with every step payments. everything in cloud and extremly valuable. No way to own a game anymore. Thankfully we have enough games produced in last 20 years that I can just stop playing new games and have plenty of fun replaying everything I have for years.
Next gen will be normal, but gen after next-gen(dafuq) Your words will come true

This is really funny to me because Gears of Bore and Skyboring are on the top of my list of most overrated games in last decade.

Almost no details, except for the title
Epic Games Has a "PC-only" Game in the Works
Quote:
The studio behind Gears of War, Infinity Blade and Unreal Tournament is working on a game that, at this point, appears to be exclusive to the PC. Epic Games president Mike Capps and Gears of War design director Cliff Bleszinski announced that development at PAX East today during its "Epic Games: Past, Present and Future" panel, but offered little in the way of additional details.

Would ****ing love a free ut based game, like Quake Live... its about time...

either they have some new tech that consoles can't handle and want to show it of on the pc or they are targeting the free-to-play gender...

Either way Im sold as long, as its a UT game. Dont know of a word that can describe how sick Im from all these "realistic" warfare fps that flooded the market. Been dreaming for a oldschool fragging shooter since the titan pack for ut3. Crying or Very sad

I dont get this, why use directx through flash through the browser implementation of flash instead of directly?

Its just like the real UE3, except for the mess of flash security permissions and firefox's gc pauses making the game laggy as fuck

And its making me mad that they are reviving flash usage with this shit, Im forced to deal with flash for h264 support and I would like too see it gone from the face of the earth as soon as possible

Flash is platform independent. It runs just as well on pc, mac, linux and in theory even on phones and consoles. Running complicated games on it is a big fuck you to Microsoft and their direcx. Now, I don't think it can just come and replace directx, but its successor technology could do just that.

So is directx. With one big difference. Adobe doesn't care where you put it. As long as they see a benefit for themselves in it, they'll allow it. Microsoft, on other hand, uses directx to tie customers to their operating system.

Again, flash in current state is still way from competing with directx on raw power market, but the stuff they and other players are developing could change the playing field in the future (probably with some nasty googlestyle adds added to the mix).
