 |
I own a Hanns G HG281 DPB (linked the newer model as the older one is no longer made).
Anyway, for roughly a few months now, when I turn my system on for the first time during the day (monitor has been off) my screen is often blank (like changing resolutions blank) when it boots into windows for roughly a minute or so. The LED light is blue during this time, so it's not a vid card or cable problem to my knowledge.
If I restart my system immediately afterwards, this problem does not occur (I can see the win7 sky blue load screen instead of blankness). I don't have a problem changing resolutions in windows, or seeing anything in DOS (i see the win7 load logo immediately for example). Also, when I'm gaming it will occasionally (roughly once in a 12 hour period or so) go black and then return to normal after a split second.
So, is my monitor going down the shitter as I suspect? Why does the problem exhibit itself only during the first cold boot for the day (are the capacitors failing to charge or something)? Would running at a lower than native (1920x1200) resolution extend its life?
Thoughts appreciated.
Also welcoming suggestions for monitors. I need something affordable, but I really don't think I can go back to anything smaller than 27.5" after being on this one for several years. Any suggestions besides the model I linked?
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Perhaps the back lighting is on the fritz? Have you tried it on a different system?

U2711 or perhaps Samsung's T27A950 (haven't read any reviews on that yet).
As for your issue: sounds more like a broken PCB somewhere. Can you reproduce it by unplugging the monitor's POWER cable and then plugging that back in?

No I haven't. Only system in the house atm is my gaming rig desktop.

That U2711 looks beautiful, but pricey as hell. I don't think I can afford (or feel good about myself afterwards) spending $850 on a monitor.
The Samsung's T27A950 is cheaper, but looks more like a TV. And honestly, I don't need all of that 3D shit.

I'll try and get around to testing that today. The input cables for this monitor are a MAJOR pain in the ass to reach - way in the back underneath a shitty fucking overhang placed so that you simply cannot see what you're plugging in
Anyway, my gut says that yes, this would most likely reproduce it (given the whole "only occurs when booting it up for the first time each day scenario").

Does it have an internal power supply? I.e. just a power cable plugging into your wall socket, no brick in the middle? If so, then yeah, that sounds like leakage in the display's power supply. Out of warranty?
Not sure about monitors besides those to be honest, but 850 USD sounds way too much for the U2711, that's even more than the 575 EUR we pay for it over here. It's the exact same price as the Samsung in fact. It's the inferior Apple 27" that's 875 EUR :E
