8800gts wasn't very good deal imo, was expensive in copaire to the 8600gt who came few weeks maybe 2-3 monts after the 8800gts came out and the 8600gt was less expensive and even faster. but overall the 8800gts well served me for about 4 year but again was too expensive for it's return.

8600GT was faster than the 8800GTS-G92? I think you might be a teensy bit confused there, pikachupi mate =) I'm not talking about the butchered G80 versions, the ones with 320 and 640MB of VRAM.. but the enhanced G92 one. Even THEN the original 8600GT was absolutely not faster than the 8800GTS-G80.

i forced myself to complete this game in about 5h through 9 levels of utter garbage. Vomit

the default menu is ridiculously slow. luckily, they have an option, 'fast menu,' to speed things up. Smile

2560x1600 is wasted in this game. the graphic is horrid. you shoot robots after robots until you get so bored out of your mind that it becomes automatic. sure, there are buttons to push. but oh, no, you can't push them until you kill all the stupid robots in the area. Rolling Eyes

the atlas boss was kinda cool as well as the crawler boss. the upgrade 'booth' has a neat layout to it where you're not forced/stuck in an upgrade screen. when you're done, you simply walk away. Razz

xb360 pad is flawless in-game. although, menu navigation requires you to use the digital directional pad instead of the left analog stick. Sad

once you've beaten the game, there is nothing left to do. you can, if you want, replay all the levels in the extra menu. ...and yes, the ending cutscene uses the same cheap slide show animation as the rest of the in-game 'story.' Mad

anyway, it's time to wipe this sucker off my hard drive and on to the next game! Very Happy

oh good point, i forgot how much i wanted to rip on the menu. its nice and cool for about 10 seconds, but its so utterly impractical... style over rational thought... i dont think when i last saw such a silly menu.

Yes, it's fucking terrible IMO, but once you click the "fast" option, it's not a problem anymore.

Heh and I was about to come here claiming that this is one of the best looking games ever Razz And just with old DX9.

Finally got patch installed and loving my first experience with FXAA. 1920x1080 with high and 40fps min with the benchmark. The lighting is just fabulous and the reflections are tasty. Physics also very good, although a bit exaggerated.

One level at a time is enough for me and with easy, still plenty hard for my taste. 3rd level took close to 1 hour already, trying to jump those secrets and just ogling the gfx goodness. Oh and trying to slow heart rate down after they all wanted to shack me Smile

Not exactly my type of game, but still liking it in small bites. Mad props to those playing/finishing this with insane Shocked

i think i know what the problem is... i too thought the game looked kinda meh, but everyone kept saying it was awesome... so i jsut went back and played it a little more and i think i know what the problem FOR ME is... so far ive only played the first level, and... yea i think the problem is the design, for me.

everything looks kinda boxy and simplistic... technically it looks good, but the design of things just isnt doing it for me as much as other games do (and im not talking about the aesthetic here..)

runs very nicely though, as i said... everything on ultra @ 2560x1600, its almost always @ 60fps.

It looks good, but the gameplay is severely dated. That is of course not that big a problem since the game does not pretend to do more than that, but I think we all got spoiled by all shooters with blabla mechanics. Going back a few steps on the gameplay ladder takes getting used to.

well...it feels like the old mechanic of waves of enemies and then boss +- but it works for me , no need to think , just kill them all and even no need to reload (only stop is when the gun is overheat).

I'm annoyed that the "twist" in the slide show cutscene had absolutely no effect in-game. Heck the story if you call it that was a mess.

The game is brilliant as an old school shooter but fails if you are going to play it for the story.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

In a sense, you are right, we did get spoiled by modern day shooter, as successes and rewards are steadily spoon fed to everyone, everyone is a winner, the game doesn't challenge you etc. In this game, like all oldschool shooters, you have to be good, to do harder/hardest difficulties.

We have been spoiled also, when it comes to getting out of danger. In modern day shooters, to get out of danger, all you have to do is get back in your nice little cover, have a cup of tea, and all of a sudden, you're full HP again, ready to pop your head up and take a few easy kills. In this game, like in all oldschool shooters the only way you can get rid of danger, is if you kill it, before it kills you. There are no safe zones, there's no time to wait for the opportune time to attack, since if you wait and sit in one place, they'll go after you, swarm you, and eat you for lunch.

Whilst if you think chronologically, then yes, this game does use "less evolved" mechanics, but this gameplay requires so much more skill and thought from a player, than a modern shooter does, it's not even funny.

I just played this for the first time. Damn it sure is beautiful. And I appreciate the fact that when you choose the Normal difficulty setting, it pretty much rapes you if you suck.

My overall review (on a scale of 1 to 10):

Graphics: Who the fuck said that DX9 was defunct? 10
Audio: Good, crunchy soundtrack along with better than average effects. 8
Story: Who the fuck plays a shooter for story? (fucking twelve year olds, thats who)
Gameplay: Raping is a necessity in shooters and is something that most, if not all, games today are lacking, to the detriment of the aforementioned twelve year olds. How the fuck else would anyone ever get better at these games unless the rape you every so often? Not everyone deserves to beat a game.

I've spoilered my rant (below) because not everyone wants to read my inane, rambling, blather.
 Spoiler:

Dang, just finished that metro level, almost too scary Smile And I thought the game looked good before that, but that was just pure wank material, that is if you are into horror porn Troll Face

And Ultra ran just fine too, didn't see it dip below 60fps. Want FXAA to every (new) game now! Very Happy Have just been spending the unlocking points on totally wrong weapons, RPG + shock/emp thing is where is at (read: keeps me alive).

Also liking it when I try to hide the big ones with homing missiles and they hurt even when I'm tucked inside some container. They are like "come out and play, we can shoot you all day". Best part was I died in a spot that I saw gameplay of "this is where the thing comes" had to see it but didn't have a plan to get out of the way Razz
