Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
I've seen a couple of his concerts, that's exactly what his concerts are like. He may be the one doing the singing, but he still goes back to his drumming roots and has a lot of musical "intermezzos" where he's actually supporting his band rather than the other way around

<3 the band but locally sourced and made videos aren't really all that high budget ... they need a Waldo to make it better (and try to get rich off Videofact aka government arts financing!)
