Clive Barker's Undying |
This.
Especially Realms of the Haunting (which is a great blend of FPS and adventure, a definately rare breed) and System Shock 2 (which is awesome on so many levels and atmospheric as hell - be sure to play the first one as well).
If you want older games, I'd add at least Waxworks, made by good ol' Horrorsoft.

Clive Barker's Undying scare the shiat out of me. I love horror movies, but I can't really play these horror games. It took me some time to get through Dead Space 1 and 2 but I never finished Undying.

How come nobody mentioned, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Cryostasis or Condemned: Criminal Origins?
Those are probably the best horror games ever made.

Anyone remember the haunted mansion level in Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines?? I nearly lost it and turned off the speakers. I must have made around 30 saves of that area alone!!
1 and 2 are still amazing.
