They could (try to) do so much more, but they only release revenue reports etc that are of no use to PC gamers.

(...)it’s an order of magnitude harder to do so for games that are digitally distributed. Sure, it can be done, but then the players don't typically get recognised when games are implementing online features such as achievements, points and so on.
Yeah, this always stopped me from pirating games.
Points, achievments, rankings... srs bizness indeed!

Oh I don't know about that. It's a pretty hard hitting and powerful gang. MS, Intel, nvidia, amd and Dell. What I find strange is that we're not seeing even more of them. There's lots of corporations that benefit from PC gaming. Either they're selling third party hardware/software or they're hardware manufacturers themselves. Take Dell and their competitors for instance. They don't make a dime on consoles.
If PC gaming dies there's going to be a hell of a lot less pc's being sold worldwide. Companies like Logitech, Creative, Razer and so forth might even go bankrupt.
"To further combat piracy, we’ve also seen game design changing, where the key value propositions now exist in the cloud. (such as achievements, pets and so on)."
Who in their sane minds would think this of all things would make people stop pirating.
But wait, I can do better:
Who in their right minds BELIEVES, that achievements were made as an anti-piracy measure, and not, in fact, as a consolification from xbawks!
I haven't met a single mature gamer in my life, and I have met many, who actually care for achievements. Not one. Then again, none of the people I come in contact with, are 12 year old cyber-egocentrics.
How can it be dead when I had the 360 version of DX HR on my JTAG, and the first half hour of the game looked so good I decided to buy it and wait for the friggin 23rd! I can't be the only one
