For me these whole series were mostly made by the second game. I didn't really like the first one. I liked the third game, but it was pretty weak. The AvP movies were just average and from the Predator and Alien movies I can't remember anything, they didn't mark me at all, but the second game did and it's still one of my favourite FPS games ever.
Edit: Ok, so I've put all the movies in 720p BRRip to download. This will probably be a very long marathon... at least friday will come quicker this way.

Well in the first film, the crew of the Nostromo had no real weapons aside from some improvised cattle-prods, flame units and knives -- and the alien carapace is far too dense and tough to be damaged by those (flamers aside, naturally) - the Pulse Rifles, on the other hand, rip that shit apart like tissue I'd love to see some praetorians in the game and I'm hoping, given the 4-player squad nature of the game, that it turns out like Dead Island/Left 4 Dead and gives us some 4 on 4 VS matches
As much as I love the second film, the first one is genius cause it shows you a single Alien creature that "survives" being sneaky and manages to kill nearly the whole crew one by one by isolating them. It's not that it was indestructible, it just used darkness and the size of the ship to its advantage, add to that (very important) what Sabin said about the crew having no real weapons and it was all set out for carnage.
That's why many people prefer the first one; it had that awfully tense atmosphere, true space horror. The sequel was just balls-to-the-wall OORAH! militaristic slaughter ... though still so awesome. If I'm being honest, my favourite one IS Aliens (please people, stop saying Aliens 2, if anything you could say Alien 2, but it's actually just Aliens. As in multiple) - I prefer the setting, the characters and the sheer scale of it. Though for good classic space horror, Alien wins.
Spaggheti surprise, extra ketchup!
(Or what that scene was again where that worm being what they're now called - EDIT: Chestburster? - says hello to the rest of the crew through that other person before running away as Ridley would have stabbed it with a fork and eaten it otherwise, just like the snails they resemble.)

I'm glad it didn't make it as well, it just looked so cheap :/ The alien impaling Lambert with its tail, hearing her screams and moans over the intercom, THAT was scary.
That's why, mate. I couldn't have been older than 8, 9 at the most, the film was already almost a decade old before I got around to watching it - but that one scene was awesome and scary at the same time. Same when Dallas was in the air ducts
Worst movie I saw was the one where they (imitate?) Predator but it's set in some local American small town, ends with the protagonist destroying the creature via nuclear airstrike and him surviving by of all things hiding in a tiny little water well.
AVP2? Nah, the one before that was the worst. When the Predator gave the Alien tail as a spear and the head as a shield to the black chick, EVERYONE in the theater groaned.

Have you seen the 25th Anniversary edition that came out in the theaters in 03? They added the deleted scene when Dallas was strung up in that web substance and he was talking to Ripley. That was pretty chilling. But that scene in the ducts when the chick was telling him that the alien was on top of him he turns and it jumps out...yeah, I jumped too.
Reminds me of the old Alien C-64 game. I remember similar feelings when walking into a room and then the screen goes black with the green spritish alien attacks you.

Bah, I loved that scene - it was a true, honest to god, nod to the comics. Broken Tusk and Machiko -- the acceptance and respect, bringing Machiko into his clan by marking her with the blood of her conquest and giving her a shield/spear made out of the the kill =)

For me the Alien saga is only the movies, the rest is just milking the franchise (AvP, comics etc..), It already became stale after Aliens. But to each his own.

I understand what you say, but for me the problem wasn't the intention but the execution. That shot with the two sillies running side by side reminded me instantly of that awful Batman & Robin film (yeah the one with Arnie).

But there was so much wrong with that. I can understand the acceptance and respect. But that thing has acid for blood and she didn't get burned? WTH?
I still think this was much scarier. The music and sound effects alone just creeped me out:
I still remember trying to detonate the Nostromo and Mother kept denying it saying that life forms were aboard. That included whoever you had, plus Jones the cat, and the Alien. Never did beat the game though.

I preferred the Aliens UK copy (and MSX version);
but that is a different game to the Alien c64... The Alien c64 game was more strategy and tactical than the aliens game.
I also loved the music on the alien game

Unrelated but...
I saw the preview for Alien and Dawn of the Dead while watching Battlestar Galactica movie in Sennsuround (BIG ASS Subwoofers in the theater that shook the whole place) Both trailers scared me. I has like 8 years old. I knew about DotD but the Alien trailer was just the egg over the carton cracking. It was very effective. I think kids nowadays would laugh at it. I can tell you the audience did not find it funny at all and the image stuck with me for a very long time. The fact that I was visiting the big city of Syracuse, NY (USA) added to the mystique.
I love that even though people such as Sabin that saw the movie ten years later, are calling the characters by name. Dallas this, Lambert that. Not alot of movies have that type of development for the characters and I think most remember the way each of them died. Can you say the same for the Saw franchise?
Trivia: The Alien 16 inch action figure (doll if you asked my Father) was the first toy ever created for an R rated movie.
TL;DR
AvP 3 Game sucked and was dissapoint +10

BKarza You're absolutely spot on about the characters, these days I really struggle to remember the names of most characters in films - as they're just not worth caring about. Earlier movies like Alien? Hell yeah.
I sometimes wonder if it was because I was a child and saw the movies several times at the theater. But the older I get the more I think it was the quality that kept those names there. For instance: There are people in real life I have seen 30 times or more and I still don't remember their names cause they just aren't "remarkable".
6:50 If you have never seen this do yourself a favor. It is pure genius!
Blurb: AvP Movies weren't for me and Alien 3 was a great film.
