A question to those how are playing it or those who played some of the beta stuff. Is this game worth shelling out £30 on? I'm asking this as I've seen a couple of reviews state that if you are into shooters, which I am, then don't expect much from this game as it has dodgy AI and the shooting kinda feels unsatisfying? They do say the world is probably worth getting it for but I want a few of ze humpers opnions before I shell out the dough for this.

Or am I kind of missing the point to this game and it's not exactly a shooter as such?

It got unlocked on Steam in NA. People around the world used a workaround to fool Steam into thinking they're from NA. Plus, the game's being unlocked on Friday on Europe and not tomorrow.

Oh i see, ok thx for the reply ^^

It is very much worth £30 and the shooting mechanics are as good as any other AAA shooter on the market these days, despite the game not being a pure shooter. The first game was an RPG first and foremost, so shooting always felt "off" - whereas this one has a far more satisfying FPS mechanic. I wrote a mini-review if you want to check it out, it's in my sig, but as is the case with Deus Ex; it IS an RPG. If you want a plain shooter, this probably isn't the game for you.

I'd hardly call the first game a RPG, but I agree the shooting was off. Think it was as much to blame on the game engine as anything else though. It used the Dark(Thief/SystemShock2) engine, didn't it?

That said, while I've yet to play the full game, shooting felt kinda off to me in the leak with this game too. Or at least the camera movement did. Something kinda sluggish with it, sorta like mouse acceleration( though I don't think there was any). Also, did they fix the different x/y sensitivity? That annoyed me to no end.

Boy... so much WRONG in one little post.

1. Yes the first one was an RPG. It was the very definition of an RPG and acted, sounded, looked and played as such.

2. What the fuck? No. It ran on the Unreal engine -- and to blame the Unreal engine for poor shooting mechanics (Hello? Unreal Tournament?) is beyond laughable. No, really, it's so not funny I'm not even going to put a smiley in this post. The shooting mechanics in DX were based around the stats, rather than player skill (not RPG, honest, no...) and so lower stats and proficiencies in weaponry meant lower accuracy and damage.

If you haven't played Deus Ex 1, the best I could describe DE:HR to you is as a Metal Gear Solid... RPG! There are guns and there is shooting, but most of the time you'll be infiltrating from vents and inspecting the guards' patrol routines to either stealthily avoid them or organize a good plan to kill them; hence shooting being a part of the game but not the base mechanic. And on top of that add the RPG elements of upgrading your augmentations.

In case you haven't played MGS either, well idk how to describe DE:HR to you! Neutral

Mouse acceleration in DX:HR can apparently be solved via a higher-DPI mouse (Unsure about any specifics, I use Logitech and their method of using their own driver outside of Windows but it might not affect much.) and then setting in-game sensitivity to 0. Smile
(The higher DPI/speed to compensate for the in-game sensitivity decrease.)
