Project manager Eric Johnson has said that the game's spectating, coaching and matchmaking features could become Steamworks components for use in other titles.
"Well, we look at everything we do, we like to first experiment on our own products, and this [gamescom] tournament is an example of that," Johnson told Digital Spy.
"We built a bunch of features around spectating games and running tournaments, building a lobby that DOTA 2 is at least initially taking advantage of.
"The things that are successful we'll take and use in our other products, and the things that our partners are interested in we'll put into Steamworks so other developers can use them. So we're always looking for new things to implement into Steam, but it always starts with the product level."
It was said that Coaching, which is set to feature interactive guides and tutorials with offline bots, as well as the reportedly more social matchmaking system, could both be added to Steamworks.
Johnson further explained: "It could be that coaching is something that needs to be a Steamworks feature, or the way we're doing matchmaking is something that probably a lot of developers would be interested in using, so we're always looking to add value there."

If you got any question bavelb, feel free to ask !
Well the most prominent one I have are around team composition. The picking and banning take up 10+ minutes for a reason I assume. What do most teams look into when picking a team? Is it the MMORPG trifecta of Tank/Healer/DPS?
Then the second question is: how does a match generally play out? What are the priorities for a player (or team) early game, midgame and lategame?
Still not convinced I should start playing this when it comes out eventually, as commiting 45/60 mins to a game without being able to leave/pause for RL stuff is not something I'm sure I wan't to do (again, after stopping raiding). But being able to understand the game as an E-sport is something I would be able to get behind, as these days I rather watch an SC2 game then a footie-match.
And then there is the out-of-game research to understand mechanics and balance and counters better (I had my share when I did that with SC2 this year ^^). Maybe I'm just too fanatic when it comes to this stuff.

Usually both teams know their enemy (In Pro Tournaments).
Obviously both teams are trying to achieve somekind of balance.
Some players are extremely dangerous with specific heroes. Also you have to consider that this specific hero might be pretty important for your own lineup too.
Well, it's pretty damn hard to find a reasonable balance between the bans and picks and alot of stuff has to be considered.
The banning phase is also quite important on a psychological warfare basis.

The main priorities are map control and getting your carry/ies combat ready.
Last hitting and denying are most important in early game since it makes a huge difference in the end and often can decide a match pretty early on.
Damn, it's really hard to explain since every hero is different has different purposes.
You have to consider so many things... it really is best if you learn by playing. Theory is nice and all but actually playing the game is where it's at.
Deny, lasthit, creep stacking, courier, carry, hard carry, semi carry, supporter, cc, juking, ward spots, items, fog of war, squishy, purge...
That's just the tip of the iceberg of things you'll have to learn...
Yea, it sounds like a huge timesink and overwhelming. Not in the sense of " I won't be able to get it" cause I know I am capable, but rather in the time you need to invest in it.
Your line of keywords/terminology is a good first step though, as these are thrown around all the time in commentating, and watching (and understanding) these matches/comments does help a bit into learning a game, but mostly if you actually get what they are saying
You do need to integrate a lot of knowledge.. Knowing the game in a solid way, if you have friends and that you are interrested in reading some guides and watching some pro replays - takes about six months imo. It is quite a lot of time to invest, but once you get good and that you understand everything that is going on, you won't regret it
Watching replays featuring professional players is really essential to see how a hero is supposed to be played, what little tricks you could pull off with his skills, timings..
Also, the ban/pick phase is really important because it determines what kind of game you want to pull off. You could use a very support-heavy lineup, with a lot of fragile but useful supports that will be useful in ganking heroes especially in the early phase, but who won't scale nicely into the late phase of the game.. You can pretty much tell when a team has to finish ( or else they'll very likely loose ) the game depending on their lineup That's one of the few things you will be able to directly tell after having some experience

If you want to get into the DotA style of games I think League of Legends is a decent way to do it. The game has a tutorial as well as a purely beginner matching system so you're not partnered with insane people who yell at you for 'feeding the lane' or god knows what other lingo. My reflexes which are akin to a sloth wearing lead gloves still does ok in the beginner LoL
"DOTA's a very addictive game that chases the vast majority of people off because their team mates are screaming at them. We've always felt DOTA has a very accessible, easy to approach fun game deep down inside that's just waiting to come out.
"We've just been basically carving around that and trying to knock off all the rough edges and really make it more user friendly."
Who wants a Dota ? Blizzard haz it !
So hopeless..

I will teach you !
Seriously if all the features you've been speaking of make it into Dota2, I don't see any reason not to try to learn The difficulty of the game comes from your opponents, so if the matchmaking system is rightfully done, it should be a smooth experience for everyone.
Beta begins in 3 weeks..... NOW shit just got real 4 real!

IGN getting paid a lot lattly to alter results, and hype certain games.
Dem console gamers are mad that PC gaming's not dead, it's a sweet nectar to read all these enrage comments.
Kinda surprised that Dota won. I would have thought BF3 or Cod was bigger.
But I think the valve name has alot of to do with the voting aswell. Everyone loves valve...
Nobody expected that result either
But DotA still suffers from that invisibility, you just have to look at the reaction winning that poll triggers in here.. Close to nothing except for 4-5 people.
We are supposed to be in a hardcore PC gaming forum - and it's quite a disappointement to see how little people care for a "PC exclusive", brought up by a community and not companies they love to despise on a daily basis..
I guess the road to a well-deserved recognition is still long for Dota.

Well. I think it's looks like a fun game. It probably deserved to win, and it's great that it did. Being pc-exclusive and all. But the brutal community aspect of this game is kinda off putting. That's the reason that I haven't tried the dota games. I just want to have fun when I play, not to get raged on by 14year olds. Maybe that is the reason nobody really cheers for the game.
I hope I get in to the beta. Been a hard core, daily, but sadly not all that great League of Legends player for about a year or so now. I enjoyed watching the DOTA 2 tournament. I really want to try it, since I never played the first one. I know I'm gonna get raped hard though, but maybe there will be a lot of other noobs and my LoL experience will come in handy. Either way, I really dig the MOBA games and think they make great e-sport entertainment. It's pretty entertaining stuff to watch and man does the MOBA games take some serious skills. Maybe not quite the level of APM that SC2 has, but MOBA games require mad teamwork as well.
