Haven't they already stripped every last bit of complexity from the game, down to only 6 active skills (which conveniently can be mapped to a controller)? I fail to see how they could consolize the game more at this point.

people seem to forget sometimes that diablo had 2 active skills!
1 for the left mouse button and 1 for the right!

but you could argue that you switched around skills with the F keys in diablo 2 so you can't compare it.. but then I would remind you that when the fuck would you ever use 6 different skills?

sorceress... how many skills did I use? well... buffing with ice armor and mana shield sometimes... teleport... and 99% of the time just run around spamming fucking frozen orb.

barbarian? 2 or 3 different shouts I suppose and then just whirlwind to victory!

diablo 2 was so fucking simple to play and it was still soo much fun because of the way the few skills that you used actually worked and how the enemies and their resistances and special abilities worked and the drops and all that shit!
it's not like we had this insanely complex baldurs gate style game with 200 spells where you have to use everything at your disposal to succeed.

I fuckin love diablo 2... it's in my top 5 of favourite games of all time and I played it for like 5 years but was it complex? too complex to work on a console? hell no!

the only I thing I can see being problematic on consoles for a diablo title is picking up and managing items as well as targeting spells in a timely fashion (like meteor). that's it.

Ya it was so complex maxing out 1 or 2 skills, and putting enough str for gear, dex for block and the rest in vit.. and it was so much fun getting to level 30 without putting more than a few points in prereq skills..

Except you haven't even read anything, have you.

Where before you switched the active skill with the F buttons, you now bind 7 of them directly, two of which are still your left and right mouse button. The others are TAB and 1-4; so technically, it got 3.5 times as hard.

Sigh at all the bitching, I loved D2 but it has/had a lot of flaws, all of which seem to be adressed in one way or another. I'll make a judgement when I get to play it for myself.

Has Blizzard ever let gamers down based on crappy controls or other unpolished and broken game mechanics? You can argue that they make shitty games, but you can't say they've ever let PC-gamers down because they prefer to cater to the console crowd. Blizzard isn't known to PC development in favour of consoles. It's invevitable that they will try to maximize their profits by branching out into the console market. Hell I'd order it myself if I was in charge.

Diablo 3 is a pc game through and through however. It's been developed with the pc in mind. It's the consoles that are getting the port this time. It's the consoles that has to accept any shortcomings - if there are any. Let them have their Diablo 3. Who cares anyway?

Yeah I don't get this panic revolving around the console port either. When we get ports from consoles to PCs, every1's bitching about the controls and gameplay not catering to PC owners. This time it's the opposite way around - the game has been announced first and foremost for the PC, with console support announced later, and Blizzard's focus is primarily on the PC market - and still I see ppl complaining about it?

Major bullshitting going on:

Quote:
“There’s two basic problems with us doing that,” said Wilson. “One is players default immediately to that. So, they basically unintentionally opt out of all the cooperative experience, all the trading experience, and the core of Diablo is a circle-trading game. So for us we’ve always viewed it as an online game – the game’s not really being played right if it’s not online, so when we have that specific question of why are we allowing it? Because that’s the best experience, why would you want it any other way?”

Wilson admits that the decision will alienate some players, but also suggests that it’s impossible to please everyone.

How about making it a CHOICE??? Why can't I play the game in the way I like? Why am I being forced to take part of junk I'm completely uninterested in that detracts rather than attracts me to the game?

All just a heap of brown smelly goo dropped by a chili-eating buffalo.

So will I. I just hope RLD/SRW/FLT/Etc. can turn it into an offline version, otherwise we're screwed.

How short sighted of blizzard, and honestly, arrogant.

Whats he gonna do next, come over and burn all my DND books because my group has some house rules? Break my D2 discs because I'd rather play Xy-El or Median XL instead of vanilla? Rolling Eyes

Oh, that's right. It is in their best interest to force everyone to play online so they can get more people to use their real money auction house. At least come clean about it instead of making up crap about how we aren't playing the game right.

Yeah, we should definitely kill them for designing their game as they think is best. I mean, we as potential consumers, should most assuredly be capable of deciding what their design paradigm should be - and what kind of infrastructure will be sufficient.

I mean, they're obviously hiding this thing rather than speaking about it out in the open, and come release-time - we know they're going to send out hitmen to everyone who decides against buying it - voting with the wallet.

Except PoE requires you to be online too.

I can't really understand this. This was a day one purchase until this 100 percent online BS just to play SP.

Hey Mr. Wilson, you can please everyone. Allow SP to be played offline and we're cool! I wonder if he'll say the same thing when my rural Internet is down, their servers are down, or I can't find a hotspot/wifi connection to play at the lake on vacation....

So why is everyone bitching about Ubisoft's DRM but not about this? I'd have expected this thread going to 100 pages with "WTF!?" comments. Or is it different when it's Blizzard? My view, it's fucking retarded. I don't like to play online, even if it's only meaningless junk.

For some reason Blizzard or Diablo III seems to be bulletproof against objective criticism since fans will protect the DRM with platitudes and snarky retorts.

PoE is a much better game, it's free and it's built as an actual MMO. How about that?

ubisoft games have checkpoints online, not content.
or you can call saves content. i canot.

in gw1 you can finish all pve content in sp, with some classes combination. wich you can freely do anytime you want.
i dont remember anyone bitching about missing single player offline mode there. or about that draconic drm, preubisoft wich require to be online to be able to play single player content.

You don't seem to understand that there's a difference between MMOs and Diablo games. MMOs are made to play online, Diablo games weren't. Diablo games were singleplayer games with an additional multiplayer mode. Contrary to Blizzard fanboys's belief there are quite a lot of people that played Diablo in singleplayer. Blizzard doesn't even have the balls to admit that it's a kind of DRM, no no nooooooo! It's a feature now, AMERIKA FUCK YEAH!!!
