I've done it as well, there's no risk, it's completely normal.. It's the same thing that would happen if you would install the game from a retail DVD, where the file are, naturally, encrypted.

"Splinter Cell is a child of Deus Ex," says Carron. "It's similar in that you have to remain in the shadows. The player can approach it with stealth. Even with [Conviction], we wanted to go with something more action-oriented. And how do you blend action with stealth? As a player, I'm a huge fan of role-playing games, a huge fan of Ultima Underworld and System Shock. [Moving over to Deus Ex] was a transition where I could go, 'OK, now I can apply those ideas.'"

I don't find it crappy at all, but it's obvious the 3rd person cover system was inspired by Rainbow Six Vegas, the game that the director of DE:HR worked on. Wink

I'm surprised they didn't implement a melee system but then that would have made the game infinitely easier. You could just knock out or kill enemies by sneaking near them like Fisher and right/left click. (as in Chaos Theory)

1 and 2 are still amazing.

One problem I have with the game, is the lack of melee weapons. Sure, they want to show off their fancy takedowns, but it kinda annoys me how the only non-weapon way to knockout enemies requires energy.

I agree, seems as if they are hiding a design flaw or something.

Just got my Russian boxed augmented edition. Has both pre-order bonus sets. The artbook is alright but nothing special. It seems like sabin was right about the AUD. Here's what it says on the DLC code card (translated from Russian):

Bonus mission "Save Tong" will be offered by a certain character
The Grenade Launcher will be available as a bonus mission reward
The rest of the weapons, including the remote explosives will be added to the inventory at the start of the Sarif Factory mission.
AUDs will be available as as trophies throughout the game.

So I'm guessing it won't be available for the normal edition owners.

+1

If that's really the case, I won't hesitate in downloading the extra content from cs.rin.ru, where it will inevitably appear.

There are NO multitools in the game. And the AUD's are just instant hacks. I think it's best to save them for those hacks rated 4&5.

I recall there being a praxis kit inside a cage protected by a lock that had a hacking difficulty of 5 in the leak. I used an AUD on that one.

NO lockpicks as well, or proper melee combat, for that matter. That makes me a sad panda. Crying or Very sad WHY the hell did they remove melee and replaced it with those crappy out-of-context takedowns.

Been playing it on the xbox... a few impressions:

Visuals/Sound (mind you its the console version)

+Visual Variety
+Lighting
+Main character model
+Ambient sound
+Voice work (with a few notable exceptions)

-Textures
-Character models, most are piss poor

Gameplay

+Maps are huge
+loads of side quests
+More than possible to stealth your way through the game (it pays off as well, as xp is much higher for non lethal and stealth take downs)
+Dialog and dialog battles!
+lots of ebooks and logs
+lots of locations that are "quest free", just there for you to explore.

-Story, its cliche so far
-Interface, on the 360 its horrible and unusable (you have to go to your inventory and select a weapon each time you want to use it, i havent found a way to quick swap)
-some side quests and persons of interest are not marked on your log, you ear about them but if you miss some detail and you cant remember... you are fucked.
-Too easy, way to easy to stealth and stun/kill your way through the game, on normal difficulty.

So far i´m loving the game, the positives far out way the negatives, its game of the year so far.

They vastly improved combat, hacking, stealth, dialogues, and augmentations. They built levels with a LOT more variety and visual fidelity.

The game is absolutely fantastic.

Lockpicking doesn't really make sense in the world, and I can deal without Multitools just fine - as I always found them a bit superfluous.

The only aspects of the original Deus Ex I miss are melee combat and swimming underwater - both of which I'm not entirely sure are gone.

Having played 10-15 hours on the Xbox (minimum) - I'm about ready to call this one of the best games ever. Perhaps THE best game, replacing System Shock.

If they don't drop the ball in the later areas, that's pretty much my take.

But it's not meant to be played on Xbox. So, I'm starting over with the PC version - and I won't have the slightest issue redoing those 15 hours. Also, without being sure - it felt like I still had significant content left in the Detroit hub - so assuming the last two hubs are equally dense with content, we're looking at 40 hours minimum for the careful/cerebral approach.

Go pay for this fucking game.

Xbox 360 is fine, though it's a bit fiddly as you have only one entrance to the menu system, meaning there's no direct way to access submenus.

You hold Y for quick access to weapons/items.

Steam's DLCs are possible and do get cracked, so don't worry about it. Wink

It's not like GFWL DLCs that are mostly uncracked.
