Really? That's actually quite surprising, though I'll wager it has a LOT to do with the frequent sales - allowing people to pick up the entire collection often for less than €10.

No, I'll let you do that yourself too. You'll manage somehow, nothing can stop the love you have for Valve and its Gabe Newell Cool Face.

Yup, and if we exclude these sales, we might yet again have the consoles as winners in the sales division.

It was actually said only 3 months after its release, so it was still @ full price.

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/36952/The-Orange-Box-1-5-Million-Console-Sales-Significantly-More-On-PC

Quote:
I think when all is said and done, The Orange Box will have sold about 1.5 million copies on the console, which is great. But the game's PC sales were much stronger. I'd say significantly stronger, at least a two-digit percentage increase over the console sales. And that includes Steam sales, retail sales, and now individual sales of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2. So when you take the PC numbers for The Orange Box a la carte, they're significantly higher.

It was probably due to the fact that there was a HL game in the pack that it produced more sales on the PC. Cool Face

"at least a two digit percentage increase" At least? One would hope so.. but still, "at least" could mean 10% - and that's not significant in anyone's definition Very Happy Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.

The composer of the key themes of WoW is working at Valve now. He composed tracks for Dota 2: http://www.destructoid.com/composer-jason-hayes-joins-audio-team-at-valve-209673.phtml

Quote:
While Jason Hayes is best known for composing many of the key themes for the original World of Warcraft, his fans haven’t heard much from him over the past several years. The reason? He was most recently locked away at Carbine Studios working on a previously unannounced MMO title which I can only guess is WildStar. In the competitive field of game audio where recent high-profile game credits on your resume can be the difference between getting the next job and not, the long half-decade development cycles of MMOs can have undesirable effects on your career, which may explain Hayes’s recent jump to Valve.

Jason Hayes’s work at Valve can already be heard in the Dota 2 trailer from Gamescon. You can hear his signature epic orchestral style throughout the trailer which he co-composed with Tim Larkin. Be prepared to hear more of his music in Dota 2 and other Valve projects in the future.

My math was correct! http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1571174#1571174

Quote:
EA reports they have sold 2+ million units.

Gabe said 3 million units have been sold, so that means ~1 (1=3-2) million copies were purchased from Steam (from which EA does not see a dime).

So 1/3 of units are the PC version bought from Steam.
Add to that the amount of PC copies bought from stores, and the PC version has clearly outsold the console versions.

Congrats Valve. Smile

http://www.develop-online.net/news/38574/Blizzard-and-Valve-want-consoles-to-unite-online

Basically and explaining what they don't say clearly, they want Steam and Battle.net to be available everywhere ("ideal to have a unified online community regardless of the platform that gamers are playing on"), and crossplatform play to be available ("gamers today want to play whatever game experience they want, whenever they want with whomever they want"); when of course it makes sense ("It really is completely dependent on the game itself.").

BTW all of the above quotes are by Blizzard, Newell/Valve is barely featured in the article but whatever Razz
