Hello zhang,

Welcome to Battle.net!

You have successfully created the following Battle.net account:

myemailwhichismyfirstnameandsurnameanditobviouslyisntzhang@hotmail.com

The Battle.net account is a centralized account system that will let you manage all of the Blizzard Entertainment games you play, including World of Warcraft and future games, in one place without having to remember multiple sets of login information.

We highly recommend that you take this opportunity to verify your e-mail address. Verifying your e-mail address will unlock extra Battle.net account features, including the ability to register Blizzard games you own so that you can download them, free of charge, any time you want. To do so, simply click here:

It cant just be a coincidence, my email isn't some generic common crap! It must be teh virtual war they talked about on fox news. And I cant even email this zhang guy cuz obviously he's using my email.

Good thing im drinking a very fine white wine and eating an alfajor to cope with all this.

Change all your passwords, make sure your battle.net-account/s haven't been hacked etc.

Or it's simply a chinese phishing-attempt.

Scam/phishing attempt. I've been getting these e-mails since forever and all I have is a trial account which I haven't used since TBC.

What do you do if you generated such passwords and now need to access the sites from a public computer without LastPass? Obviously, you won't remember it by heart...that's why I generate one or two strong passwords and use it everywhere. At least that way I can be sure I'll be able to access my sites from anywhere.

I get a number of weird e-mails and similar attempts, usually scams or your generic advertisement stuff so I tend to just delete it, as said above though e-mail addresses are cheap and often sold/traded around so it's not surprising they have mine, or yours and so on. Smile

Can't see much from what you quoted though unless some crap was attached in the mail itself, normally there's either a fake link (If they're trying for passwords or accounts or similar.) or a real link but via a sub-link (Or what they're called, redirects there.) that's somewhat hidden.

Most of these attempts are pretty pathetic and very easy to recognize but deleting these 10 or so spam mails I get daily sure gets boring.
(I've even started getting Chinese spam now.)

EDIT: Unless they used your e-mail for something with Blizzard's network which would be odd and I doubt it would also be effective.
(You could always go to Blizzard's official website and reclaim your "lost" account and see what info is sent.)

EDIT: Ah so it was something like that.

hes not using ur email invasor.. (well not inside the mailbox itself)

I had one and dealt with it via blizzard.. they said the email was just used to see if you had already had an account active with it with them... its another way of finding targets apparently.. anyhow if you send a ticket they will remove that account/email from the db..

oh btw, same name from same guy for me also Smile

Yeah, it was. The links were legit, and when I tried to create a new account on blizzard (I dont have one) it said my email is already in use. So I tried to reset the password but it asks for the name and surname (plain zhang didnt work). I guess he wont be able to use it since I didn't click the validate account link.

Yeah he just used my email to register an account on battle.net. I wont do anything about it though, never used battle.net and probably never will.

flk34kj2g9403ls8

16 chars.. that's the first part of your password.

then you xor it with another 16 char password.

you have to do this on a paper every time, but you'll get used to it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-factor_authentication

It's a great concept, and can practically not be guessed by someone eavesdropping. So even if they knew my password, they would not be able to ever login.

That is what I did with my Google account as well - I have a nice iPhone app which offers me Open-Authentication based psuedo-random generator which I use to login to Google. So my password is now 6 characters long, as required by Google, and one could guess it in minutes if you knew anything about me. Won't help you much. Wink

Brute-forcing 6-character passwords doesn't take that long with octo-core CPU's and GPGPU-systems. Wink
