I thought it was already known he's in Dota 2.. and I wanted to make a remark about him being in HoN too.. which is interesting.

Anyway, since you didn't know this, the voice actor of Duke had twitted about doing voice work for Valve for Dota 2, but he later deleted his tweet, probably because he realized Dota 2 wasn't officially announced yet by Valve: http://www.gosugamers.net/dota/news/12751-the-voice-of-dota-2

All expenses paid (traveling + accommodation + meals) for 7 days for the lucky pro players Valve has chosen for the first ever Dota 2 tournament, that will also introduce the game to the public.

HOLY FUCK.

The TF2 Sniper and GLaDOS are married!!

http://www.halflife2.net/2011/07/20/john-patrick-lowrie-believes-dota-2-coming-this-autumn/

Quote:
Podcast Impetuous Windmills recently had an interview with married couple Ellen McClain and John Patrick Lowrie, both key voice actors in Valve's games. Ellen known as her voice as GLaDOS, the TF2 announcer & the Combine Overwatch and John having voiced TF2's Sniper, Odessa Cubbage (as well as a known HL2 citizen) and several Dota 2 characters.

In the interview the couple talked about their work with Valve over the years and what they have been working on recently.

Ellen said she has done more voice work for Portal 2 since it was released for DLC #1 - 'For the multiplayer part'

John has voiced 7 characters for Dota 2 so far. He couldn't recall 2 of them but the remaining 5 include: "An ice spirit guy, an ultimate devil guy, a martial arts mystic guy, Pudge and Storm Spirit."

He believes Valve are aiming for a release this fall (autumn).

In an interesting anecdote, John told the story that Valve did not realise he and Ellen were married until they were called in on the same day to work on their TF2 announcer & sniper parts.

As usual there was an episode 3 question which Ellen knew nothing about. John however said that Bill Van Buren (a Valve animator) came over for dinner recently and the topic of Episode 3 was discussed. No further comments were added.

Odessa will be back in Episode 3? Smile

A famous DotA streamer, TobiWan, made allusions about it - he's quite knowledgable with everything DotA2 related, he's a quitte famous figure in the Euro/Australia and SEA regions and has been somehow entrusted by Valve to promote it - and said the prizepool was something like 1,600,000$. He's a trustworthy source Wink I believe he's going to be the english streamer in the Gamescon Event.
( Also confirmed by NiceTry, the german caster of the event )

Yeah, of course the runner-ups will get prize money, it has been like this in every tourney there has been, it'd be quite a bummer if they only gave money to the winner. They could even give money to the 4th and the 5th since the prize pool is so large. Maybe european teams will have something left by the Chinese teams, who knows Very Happy

Chinese DotA team CCM purchased by Wanda Group

According to a micro blog update by Wanda Group’s director Sicong Wang, the company have officially acquired the very famous domestic gaming club in China – CCM.

As a result the club will now be renamed to “Invictus” and DotA, Starcraft II and Warcraft III rosters will continue to be a part of the club.

Wanda Group feels that competitive gaming is a strong enterprise and has great radical integration with their system and working.

There are unconfirmed reports that the club was purchased for 40,000, 000 Yuan which sums up to approximately $6.2 million USD.

The purchase comes following the announcement of the $1 million DotA 2 Championship announced yesterday to which Team CCM has an invite.

Seems like the release of DotA 2 has already begun to greatly influence competitive gaming.

Riklis: I don't see why most people are just despising this event and just dismissing it as a cheapass marketing campaign - I've read what you've said a good dozen times Riklis. I can't blame you, but I think they will pour some more money in it.. Wink Yes it is obviously one big marketing event, but it's also an awesome moment for DotA fans, 1,6$M, streams in Chinese, Russian, English, German.. It is the first time so many international teams get to face each other..

When you've played a game for 5 years, seen it become one of the most popular games played online ( yes we play in a sort of bubble, but DotA players are counted by millions ) - when it began as a broken custom map for a dying game, well, you kind of get genuinely excited by this. The DotA community may be one of the most ill-mannered, but it's also one of the most loyal to their good old custom map Sad

consolitis: Yes, it is the biggest prize pool ever in Esports' history. Smile CoD XP event is close, but it's only 1,000,000$ Very Happy

It's Valve being scared that DotA2 can't go head to head with it's free to play competitors. And wether you like HoN or LoL or not they are DotA2's competitors and guess what? They had quite a head start.

@consolitis:
I'm not debating that it's not the biggest prize pool. But "oh look at how much money they put on the line!" , come on, of course that's marketing behind that.
And tbh I don't think Valve cares that much about esports.

We will see ;D I don't feel the least bit scared about DotA2's future, HoN has its own 75k-ish player base that will greatly suffer from DotA2 imo ( most of its players was looking for a 1:1 copy of DotA with upgraded graphics ); and LoL is quite a game of its own who attracts a different breed of players.

I find it a bit sad that you still think I don't see the marketing campaign behind this event.. Point is we well know what it is, it is still as awesome and unseen in the DotA community. Well, I guess only old DotA players can understand that, it's perfectly natural you don't.
