From what i've read they are actually taking their time to make this into a decent film. Hopefully it turns out as such. 'The Thing' is one of my favorite films.

i've got some bad news for you then
reshoots took place this year, that shit can't be good

Thats exactly the point. They saw how bad it was and reshot stuff. I'd rather have reshoots then no reshoots.

not exactly, most reshoots spell trouble nowadays, it means studios execs didnt find the movie 'good enough' so they demand this stuff to broaden it's appeal
on the flip side
pick-up shots and some reshoots are often made in some productions since they are result of careful editing where they notice that some shots won't fit in the overall visual or narrative aspect in the movie.

Or things are fucked on the set and they haven't noticed them until late.
IF the studio wants a reshoot you got problems.
If the director wants reshoots it's ok sometimes.
...even lotr had reshoots. i dont take reshoots as a sign of a bad film... what matters is down to WHY reshoots are happening... if someone looked at the current cut of the film and said 'this shit just isnt working', and went back to fix it, then thats a GOOD thing.
but whatever, i love sci-fi horrors, so im looking forward to this, definately.
looks like absolute shit. A remake of one of best scfi/horror flicks ever made , with a 20 something girl playing MacReady and garbage CGI FX. What a winner
GJ HW on fucking up yet another universe. Some films don't fucking need prequels/sequels/motherfucking remakes. The Thing aged perfectly, every bit as nerve wrecking as it was at creation. I'm really, REALLY not a fan of horror (which I would somewhat classify this as), but this movie blew my socks off, it was great!
Too bad ,years ago , before the movie entered filming, a script review of the movie said that this could be great if it's treated and filmed right.Looks like studio medling to me
i think it looks pretty good... but then again. i havent seen the orginal one.
but i guess here a just too many fanboys.
like when dawn of the dead came out and people were saying "awww man why a remake that 70's movie was the bomb".
then i saw it and i couldnt believe how poor it was.
remakes are not that always that bad

+mary elizabeth winstead is in it yeesss
original was a shit movie was the idea was amazing.
the remake lost the idea and became just a zombie movie.
There's no atmosphere in that trailer, it looks like the typical generic horror movie from these days, and as Radicalus said, the Thing is still a completely flawless movie that didn't absolutely need a remake.
They've got to milk everything though, so here we go, crappy remakes everywhere! *iamdisappoint*

who cares about the idea if the movie is shit?
yeah the 04 remake lost the idea - heavens forbid! - but is was a solid, quality zombie movie without any stupid pretentions

I'd say, so far, it's the trailer's fault, not necessarily the movie's. Something more obscure would fit a movie like The Thing better, but they went with a pretty cliched trailer where almost everything is revealed right away and filled it with monsters, screams and other scary sounds - can't get much of an atmosphere from that
The movie itself might turn out to be not that bad, if we are very lucky
I loved the original, and in no small part thanks to the fact that I knew absolutely nothing about it besides that it was a horror movie. When I started to watch I had no idea what was happening or what was about to happen. This and relatively slow pacing really built up the suspense and mystery.
In that trailer they pretty much instantly reveal the alien, its hostile intentions, its ability to transform... so a big part of the experience is gone already. Granted, for those of us who have seen the original, that part is gone already anyway, so it's not that big of a deal, if the movie itself retains the atmosphere of the first one.
Still, it would be impossible for this prequel to compare with the original if you have seen it.
Anyone else noticed the song the norweigans are "singing"? its the one they had in Eurovision contest 20 years or so ago performed by a laplander (dressed in laplander outfit) and got Nil points
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Well, i'd be happy if the remake was made by someone who could hold suspense and build fear and create tension. Teen drama = fail.
well it does look like a remake. It doesn't have anything that calls itself a prequel
...you mean apart from finding the ship, digging it up, removing the alien in the icecube, waking it up and getting annihilated by it...and a dog that runs off which is actually the alien..
...so exactly what more do You need?
Edit: Oh yes, I forgot the norweigans.
