I don't get the appeal with RDR and GTA4. They're well made games, with a lot of cool mechanics, but nothing really draws me in. Shooting is extremely easy and driving was never my thing. LA Noire has some nice new mechanics and cases are interesting, as is the story overall.
Both GTA4 and RDR I never had a clear sense of direction, it always felt like semi-random missions were falling into my lap. |
L.A. Noire is just much more story based than GTA / RDR.
RDR's story is, for the most part, pretty meh. Towards the end it really picks up though.
On the other hand L.A. Noire gives you - despite being a sandbox game - nothing to do in the sandbox except the main story missions. Which are fine, don't get me wrong but I can definitely see that some people like the one but not the other. I like 'em all and I'm happy with it

I think that's the problem yeah. GTAIV and RDR are too much sandbox (for me), and I pretty much just like to follow the story and avoid any distractions (unless they grant me something that can effect gameplay, like experience or items in an RPG).
On the other hand I really loved previous gta games, so it might be I just got bored with the sandbox mode.

but yeah r* track record shows if they have PR and a game sells they will port it to PC [Manhunt 2 anyone and the PR that the Wii and the PsP version made in the FOX NEWS was enough]
the only games we miss from R* are Midnight Club L.A and RDR with the Undead Expansion

If it's about GTA IV and it's initial release then it would likely be the stability and performance problems, it was solved somewhat but the way they pushed the engine was a bit too much so it's still a very demanding game using a lot of CPU power and then GPU power plus it can also use a lot of VRAM depending on settings, overall I don't think the engine copes well with that amount of detail with how further they pushed some of those settings being many times over the console version, especially not on the hardware available back then. 
In comparison to LA Noire this is supported by Rockstar but a different engine and a different team.
(Of course that doesn't say much of anything so we'll see what they've done to the PC version when it's released, so far it just seems they're holding it to the holiday session as the extras are controller related and 3D support, hopefully those DLC will be included also but I wouldn't be surprised if they are sold separately via LIVE.)
As for Red Dead wasn't that a different branch of Rockstar and one that rarely sees PC version ports.
EDIT: Crysis had a similar problem on release though it's not exactly a good comparison, ArmA 2 also in the way these allow you to push the settings as you want but doing so will kill performance completely on most any PC.
EDIT: Ah right that announcement, forgot about it, likely a result of how GTA IV was received initially but I don't mean anything particular about that and it will likely be fine.
(Which is a unfortunate side effect of trying to take full advantage of both modern hardware and upcoming tech plus initially the game was a bit problematic even when scaled down.)
