So at least one of my E6600 cores is worse at math than me now, causing BSODs naturally, so I need to replace it. But simply replacing it wouldn't taste right so ...

I still do have:
Power Supply: BQT E6-650W
GPU: Sapphire Toxic VAPOR-X HD 4890 (something pre-overclocked and name is probably somewhat wrong Smile)

So I was thinking the following:
Intel Core i7-2600K Box (253,64 €)
ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe (192,95 €) -> in case i want to use SSD caching Razz

Really not sure about ram, but RipJaws-X sounds awesome and is spoken of well, so... one of these two?
8GB-Kit G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-12800U (1600 MHz) CL9 ( 9-9-9-24 ) (68,89 €)
or
8GB-Kit G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-10667U (1333 MHz) CL7 ( 7-7-7-21 ) (70,92 €)

I live in germany if there is any advice bound to locality. The mentioned prices are from www.hardwareversand.de

I'd appreciate any help with this setup! Thanks! Smile

hardwareversand.de is good, I ordered all the parts for my last PC build from them.

Perhaps you will find slightly better prices on geizhals.at, but you will need to order from several shops to get the cheapest combination, but the shipping charges will not be worth it.

Alternatively you could try alternate.de

The setup seems fine to me, but I don't have much experience with ram, I usually just pick one of the cheapest sets and never experienced any problems.

For further advice you could always go to the forum of computerbase.de those guys are pretty experienced.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

You going for serious overclocking Nui? If so, get the 1600 kit, otherwise just stick with 1333 Smile

Other than that it looks fine to me, although I'm not sure about the Z68 choice, seems a bit of a moot point to me

@ couleur
Thank you Very Happy
Immediately went to computerbase to find that search for components... those pricks have way to many options Very Happy
Found seemingly "much" better ram, but i dont really have a clue after all Wink

@ Werelds
Thank you, too!

There is only 2€ difference between the 2 Kits. So is the 1600 better or only better if and only if i overclock? Though i probably will. Just too curious for that Razz

The Z68 costs 10€ more than the P67 variant. Im willing to pay that much Very Happy, in case ill try the SSD caching Razz

How much better would ram need to be so i would notice it? Is there even an answer for this question? Razz

By all means, just go for the 1600 kit then, it'll run just fine at 1333 if you experience instability at its full speed Smile

There is no point where you'll really notice RAM speed for gaming; maybe between 800 and 2100 you notice something, but honestly, there are very few applications that are memory-bandwidth intensive enough to make higher clocked RAM worth it from a performance perspective.

The advantage with higher clocked kits is that they can usually sustain a bit more when you're overclocking.

Didn't you guys have something similar to Tweakers.net's pricewatch btw? I remember seeing such a site for some German shops some months ago Smile

couleur mentioned one (the best) already:
geizhals.at

hardwareversand.de is a good shop. Their prices are as good as their service. Never had a problem with them. They exchange defective hardware within a week, even if it`s almost 2 years old.

@ Werelds
Should have looked at ram gaiming benchmarks in the first place. Now i couldn't care less Laughing

Will take the 1600Mhz anyway (costs ) barely more) for uses of the Smug-face. Ill go fugazi on you all!

I checked all sites mentioned here and hardwareversand.de is the cheapest by a landslide with these parts so its good to hear, thats its regarded well Smile

Thanks guys! Ill report back Smile

I now settled with an Asus P8Z68 V-Pro since i cant get my hands on a Deluxe. Hope that wasnt a problem. Feature-wise it shouldn't.
Now just waiting for the cpu to arrive.

Usually doesn't matter, the "deluxe" versions typically add like a better soundchip (which still isn't as a €45 X-Fi) or something useless like that Razz

oh good Very Happy

that and apparently the deluxe version does not have an output for the iGPU which is ridiculous.
And I may actually have a use for that. I could use 3 monitor outputs for 2 monitors. Because my HDMI output uses 1, but i only have vga CRTs Wink

I now have it set up.

Well. Bios isnt working properly anymore. The first 2 uses it worked fine. It isnt completely visible, so its completely worthless.

LAN never works on boot. It says the cable isnt connected. Disabling and then enabling the adapter may resolve the issue. Just i did that 20 times to get it working again.

Thats fun Confused

I think so Smile How would I know that they didn't ?

The bios problem can be solved by removing the DVI-HDMI adapter. I can see the full bios without it. THX for the graphical UI Asus, i wuv it Very Happy

More importantly, i seem to have a power problem. PC may shut down when in heavier usage. Prime in heat and powerconsumption torture test kills the PC immediately.
Can bad bios standard settings cause that?

No, voltages shouldn't go high enough to blow out your PSU. Some Be Quiet 650W was it? Assuming it's like their other units, it should be able to do near 600W continuously, more than enough for that system of yours. Power from the wall is stable?

Sadly, i also cant answer that question. I think the power is stable but I dont know. Except, that this is now the third broken BeQuiet PSU Very Happy

I just now tested another BeQuiet PSU (E8-480, so another 480 Watts) and hooked that up to the GPU alone. Voila, PC survived Prime for way way longer until i just stopped it.

So I think im getting a new PSU ... now only my GPU needs to die and I pretty much changed the whole thing Wink

I would not even touch with a stick those Be"Quiet" PSU´s. Get something like Corsair/Seasonic if your parts are important to you Very Happy XFX Core series are pretty sweet aswell, costs nearly nothing, and they have got very very nice reviews.

XFX Core series or the new Corsair TX650/750 (both labeled V2) are what you need to look at Smile

Similar prices, Seasonic builds, not too noisy Smile
