"Create a public profile, pick an avatar, and display the games you own on your personalized profile page.
Facebook, PSN and XBL integration so you can quickly build your Origin friends list.
Social notifications so you’ll know when your friends sign-on or start playing a game.
Chat with your friends and browse the web right from your game on select titles with the new In-Game Overlay. "

So. EA copies Steam. Yey?

Urgh.

(Oh, except Steam doesn't have XBL/Facebook integration. Oh noes! Very Happy )

I think some kind of Facebook/Twitter integration will definitely come in the future to Steam, there are a lot of people who use them and would appreciate this feature, and if it's made optional (as everything Steam Community currently is, you can completely ignore the Steam Community tab in your client if you want to) it won't bother those that don't.

Yeah, I think so too. But then, that's kind of why I was being sarcastic about FB integration on Origin - It's expected, not innovative (one of the main arguments here being Steam isn't innovating). Speaking of Origin as a whole, it's merely mimicing Steam - public gaming profile, chat overlay, social notifications. And integration of PSN and XBL? Well, Steam has done the former, and MS had problems with the latter, I seem to remember reading.

So... What was the whole thing about competition breeding innovation? Very Happy

I just started EADM, seems I'm now using Origin as it updated immediately, that was a fast switch.

EDIT: So far it's EADM with a new name (Origin) and a ton of improvements and fixes, best of all the useless extras can all be disabled. Smile

My region is South America but then Origin detects me as Spain so it shows me prices only in euros. I managed to see prices in $ using a U.S. vpn server, but again, purchasing through that would be a risky procedure.

Come on people. Again with the prices? Sure they have cut the cost of packaging, transport, distribution etc etc, but they have to keep the servers up. Digital distributors being more expensive than some retail stores is perfectly logical.

You are seeing that wrong. For the publisher, the price of a DVD with box is at most 1 USD/EUR, which is nearly nothing. Offering a download service is as expensive or more expensive as you have to cover the costs always since you cannot just stop with it.

Errr. Well, not really. And also yes.

For the publisher, there's manufacturing costs - pressing the DVD, the box, the instruction booklet, the card insert warning about epilepsy (if it's not part of the instruction booklet), the inlay.

However, for retail, that's not the only consideration. There's distribution, for one thing. Display stands in shops, for another. Also, funding demo games (every copy of, let's say, Portal 2 running on an X-Box in HMV is actually a lost sale, since it's a fully manufactured disc sitting in a display case). Promotional material, some of which (adverts in magazines) you'd have even if the game were Digital only, and some of which (banners, for instance) are particular to retail.

Also for retail, there's security considerations - making sure staff don't nick any discs out the pressing plant or elsewhere through the chain, and thus leaking your very expensive game.

And still I rather buy it in the retail store or online keystore and maybe as last resort on steam.

the collectors editions I will buy for the extras that come with it....

Whatever it was called/EADM/Origin it's all the same broken shit. Heck EAs entire account system is broken.

My master ID used to be Kyorisu but then somehow I had a gazillion different personas and something happened that changed my master ID to Alpheus_Togra. Now I can't rename myself Kyorisu because that name is already taken.......by me.

Also It doesn't even fucking work as a download manager. Take BF2142 download through Origin or whatever the fuck you want to call it and you'll have an outdated version of the game.

This will probably be bad for everyone, as EA is not very desirable right now and I don't want to be forced into using their client.
