Hi there i was Just interested in this 17" LCD for Gaming. Its an 8ms one with nice
specs & attractive pricing of Around Rs.15,000($330 approx)
check the specs here
http://www.cmv.com.tw/en/product.asp?pid={7D0F23D1-529E-4152-8FD9-E18B9FF
7C33C}
The"d" model has a DVI port as well. Just wanted to know if someone has some
Experience on the Product or not.
I had one Question, i do not have a Good Graphics card at the moment. But im
sure to buy an ATi X800 soon. I do not have a DVI out port on my mobo, is there a
DIGITAL to ANALOG converter that can make me connect my DV LCD to the analog
RGB out on my MOBO just as u get DVI - to Analog converter
thx

Good Day,
I am as well in the same search as you. I decided to change my really good old CRT 15" monitor and I was tempted by an LCD...After 3 weeks of lot of reseach I can tell you the following,
1.- For games it seems that a CRT is better than an LCD. This doesnt mean that LCD are bad, but the resolution and colors are far superior in a CRT than a LCD, although the breach is closening more and more.
2.- Res in a LCD is fixed in an optime one..In case of 17" LCD 1280x1024. You cant get more res, and if you lower that res you loose image quality. It is very important to buy a good quality LCD because when you lower res the monitor interpolate the pixels. So the quality of the image at lower resolution depends on the interpolation.
3.- 16 ms or less is good for games...8 ms far better..but this measure is not absolute. I mean, response time is the time the crystals of the LCD change its state. Each change of color (for example ) has different delays so yo can obtain even 20 ms of response in a 8ms stated LCD.
4.- Color in a LCD has problems compared with CRT. The imposibility of an LCD to show real black and good shadows is an important fact.
5.- Dead pixels are another problem. A great % of LCD come with DEAD PIXEL. It depends on the company the number of dead pixels allowed. They are not very visible but one in the center of the screen can be a problem.
6.- You can see a CRT virtually from any side ( angle of view or AOV). This doesnt happen with a LCD. One of its spec is the AOV, the maximun horizontal and vertical angle in which you began to loose image quality.
On the other hand,
1.- Some say that an LCD has better an sharp quality image than a CRT.
2.- LCD dont affect your eyes like CRT.
3.- The emission of radiation is 80% less in a LCD.
4.- The power drain of a LCD is 80% less than a LCD.
5.- The weigth and space of a LCD...well...far less than a CRT.
I have read that the difference between a DVI an Analog port is very important.
After lots of research I have come to a conclusion..One of the best LCD 17" monitor is Samsung 710N. 12ms, really good interpolation capacity and vivid colors. The only problem is that it has an analog connection. There is a DVI version 710T but here in my country I wasnt able to find it. The price is really good...around 250 bucks.
The second good monitor is a Viewsonic vp171b..It has analog and DVI port, 8ms response, and really marvelous ergonometrics. There are two models a 16 ms and a 8 ms ..Although is far worse than the Samsung, for me the DVI conector is an importan factor. Besides that the price is around 380 bucks..
See www.viewscore.com to see a ranking of monitors. Saddly enough I wasnt able to enter your link page. Today I bought a viewsonic vp171 8 ms and tomorrow I will install it. Hope it is good.
About the converter you seek no word...Good luck

I had Samsung 710N LCD and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Why?
The image quality was bad. Black was like gray and red was like orange mixed with dark red. And if I examined the LCD 710N closely then I could c that the LCD screen was full of "noise" . It was like old broken TV set when closely examined. And the screen was to sharp and bright (even when I took the brightness down it still was hurting my eyes).
Maybe I had a faulty LCD but I took It back to the shop and they cave me new one but that had the same problems.
If you are getting a LCD then be sure to take the one with DVI connector because I have heard it has better image quality (I had analog connector lcd so maybe that’s why I had so bad image quality). I heard the 710T model is quite good but I personally like LG and Hyundai LCD more.
The best way to determinate which LCD is better is to but them together and c for yourself which one has better colors and image quality.
So now I got 19" Samsung 959NF CRT and I’m quite happy but when LCD get better in image quality and response time then I’m sure that I’m going to get one good 19” LCD

i agree to all the downfalls with an LCD - but still i want to give it a Shot. infact its we have to start using it so that it gets better & better.
Even i did not Like samsung 710N much. I think the colour Mixing on this is not that good, & its just too Bright, so much that it appears blury to me rather than Crisp.
The cost factor betw viewsonic & CMV is too much.
Another very good LCD is from NEC dont remember the Model but that was rated far above the Samsungs at tomshardware also but NEC is not available all around

Good Day,
Well, I think the opinions about the Lcds are really subjetive. About Samsung 710N all reviews I read are excellent...even in a past post made by myself asking advise about buying a new Lcd, another member posted about his 710N, and he said he was really happy with it. I also agree about the DVI quality compared with the analog connector...thats why I decided to buy the vp171 instead of the Samsung. But as I said before, this matter is subjetive...even about the viewsonic vp171 I have read very good reviews (it isnt a marvelous one but a quality product indeed) but some users dont like it at all.Well, tomorrow I will see.In any case I dont have too much choices here in my country..the Samsung, a LG, a Philips and the Viewsonic. As someone some time ago posted the only way to buy a Lcd is to see it working before the buying. If you like it good for you. Anyway, I tried to do some research about the CMV and it seems to have good specs. However in some sites I have read this model has troubles with black color..Try to see it before making the purchase.Good luck...
