Well, I'm out of fucking TV series' to watch again, and need recommendations.

Somebody recommend me a show or two not on this list. I prefer sci-fi, but any drama/comedy is fine I suppose (NO REALITY TV BULLSHIT). IF it's sci-fi I'd like it to be a show that started no earlier than 2000ish, also preferably with at least 3 seasons would be nice.

Show's I've already watched recently...

V - (Cancelled)
SGU - (Cancelled)
The Cape - (Cancelled)
Caprica (Cancelled)

Sanctuary (Fucking Sucked - Didn't Finish)
Boardwalk Empire (Couldn't Get Into It)

Chuck - (Season Over)
Californication - (Season Over)
The Office - (Season Over)
The Big Bang Theory (Season Over)
Eureka - (Season Over)
Warehouse 13 (Season Over)
True Blood (Season Over)
The Walking Dead (Season Over)
Misfits - (Season Over)
Sherlock (Season Over)
The IT Crowd (Season Over - No New Info On S05?)
Battlestar Galactica (WAY OVER )
Firefly (WAY OVER )
Sarah Connor Chronicles (WAY OVER )

First off, fuck the US media whores for never giving sci-fi shows a shot. Or fuck the public. Or fuck SOMEBODY. I'm sick of all my shows getting fucking canned one or two seasons in.

Secondly - props to you brits for making some awesome shows, but why the FUCK are your seasons so short? 6 x 20 minutes episodes in one season? I can watch that in one fucking sitting. Come on. How am I supposed to get a vested interest in the characters when it's over in an hour and a half. Really?

Anyway, throw me suggestions please...

I'm probably going to catch a lot of flack for this but here goes - I see books as an outdated form of media. I read a lot as a kid, but once I discovered gaming I found it to be far more immersive (and with just as good a story, except without 90% of the filler found in most books). Hell, maybe I just have a poor mind's eye and am lazy, but I don't think so. Books had their golden age (and may have it again in the future), but right now I'm living in the digital age. Very Happy

Didn't realize Warehouse 13 and Eureka were starting back up again.

I might check out Arrested Development and Camelot, The Wire doesn't seem to grab me off the bat (cop/mob drama bores me), but I may give it a shot given all the praise its gotten.

I forgot to put Dexter on there. I think I got through Season 2, but it just started to bore me after a while. The plot was rehashed over and over (almost get caught, but not quite, and figure out how to narrowly escape detection).

Will definitely check out Farscape - not sure how I missed it as I'm a sucker for sci-fi. Hopefully the 2000 era CGI won't be too off-putting (I still find today's quality CGI to be distracting)-

Also, just saw it has Claudia Black (Morrigan) - definitely going to watch it now. Looks like it had a good run episode wise too!

Thanks for the suggestions all!

Sopranos, Rome & Band of Brothers are all must see!!

As for books being outdated, just look at how many movies/series get their ideas, if not whole concept, from books. Very rarely the film is better than a book, it is more the exception than the rule.

Might be.
Because I'm probably one of the laziest persons that ever existed and I really like reading.

Reading a book and being able to form it within your mind sure as hell beats the experience provided by any movie or game.
IMO, of course

@Immunity

With Farscape be sure to watch the first 3 episodes at least because cgi in the first episode definitly sucks lol... but after that it gets way better.

Also note the movies that follow up each season i thought.

Modern Family / Black Adder / Flying Circus / Bottoms / The Young Ones / Walking Dead / Fawlty Towers / Father Ted / Vicar Of Dibley / Absolutely Fabulous / Seinfeld.

These are old ones - but they are imo worth watching several times.

And as Inz said - The Twillight Zone. The old ones are pretty damn good. Lots of Cthulhu mythos episodes!

1959-1964 :X It's prolly good if you know it from childhood.. I absolutely doubt it would spark any interest in me for example and i love older sci fi, just not too old, like first BSG, Star Trek and Doctor who for example.

Naw I'm enjoying it despite never seeing it (not properly, anyway, just glimpses here and there) before. I'd say it's worth it just to fully appreciate the IMMENSE effect the series has had on popular culture as a whole, not just sci-fi. Plus it's fun to spot young actors who'd later become famous, episodes that have been parodied or remade later etc.

I mean sure it's obviously dated and all, plus many of the plot twists and innovations of the time are today's cliches, but even that's part of the charm.

Not that I was saying Immunity should go watch it, specifically - just that he's missing out a lot of classic series from 80's and 90's alone.

Also, another mention of Deadwood since it can't be mentioned enough times. If for nothing else, watch it for Ian McShane.

Awesome chart! However I don't agree with Sanctuary being classed as Steampunk.

Already seen Dead Like Me, Band of Brothers, Rome, just forgot to list them since they're fairly old.

I tried House, couldn't get into it, that guy annoyed the fuck out of me

Lot's of praise coming for Deadwood, although I never really enjoyed westerns (Firefly was Sci-Fi first and Western second so it was ok Very Happy). Might give it a shot though.

As for not liking older sci-fi - I think it's due to a mix of it coming off as incredibly cheesy compared to modern stuff, coupled with the visual effects of the era. For example, I'm a diehard fan of the modern Battlestar Galactica, but I couldn't get more than 3 episodes in into the original series. It was just...ugh. I think it's a case of having to see it during it's time to fully appreciate and enjoy it. Kind of like playing Deus Ex or Diablo for the first time today vs. when they were released.

I always wrote off Heroes as being campy filler for the masses, was I incorrect in that assumption? Never watched a full episode.

Also might try watching Xena. Only caught glimpses of it back in the day, but there were always nice looking chicks in leather armed to the teeth, so maybe it had something going for it! Very Happy
