http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-19-bioware-to-move-away-from-sci-fi-fantasy

So, I want to hear an end to all the rubbish about EA, the bad bad Men keeping BioWare on a leash, and forcing the poor, talented, naive RPG geniuses on a path they don't like. I want you all to stop trying to find excuses for BioWare's behavior, and face the painful truth: the problem is BioWare itself, not EA. BioWare wants more units sold and larger reach, not only EA. So blame those, who deserve it. BioWare's shit is BioWare's.

I know it's easier to deal with their "move to a larger audience" by blaming an already hated company, EA, and it's hard to realize, where talented people can sink, but it's about time we reconsidered BioWare.

BioWare was my favorite company. I loved them, loved their games. KOTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Baldurs Gate and others.... So many good memories. But now... Jesus Christ, I can't freakin' recognize them anymore.

Dragon Age 2 wasn't even worth pirating. Epic waste of time, especially for ppl that have played their previous games.

Hmm...I was hoping Witcher 2 would give them a reality check, and have them try to make better games. Guess not.

Overreact much? First of all that article name and intro aren't in the original gamasutra article, but added by eurogamer. The statement also comes following a direct question about that very issue.

Having said that, I do agree that it would be sweet if BioWare only thought about their current fans and didn't look to "sell more units" - hell, I'd be happier still if they only thought about the fanbase they had back when they made BG, and ignored everyone else - but I don't think there's likely to be a game developer that doesn't look to expand and attract more players.

Having said that, I also don't see BioWare making a realistic game as an innately negative thing, if that comes to pass. A game like Alpha Protocol for instance could have been very nice with better production values and more polish, and perhaps a more involving story. There are a lot of "realistic" settings to explore, and once the Mass Effect franchise ends with ME3, I'd as soon play a realistic game as to immerse myself in yet another sci-fi or fantasy IP.

Though another Jade Empire game would be nice.

BioWare is considering moving away from its traditional sci-fi and fantasy roots and dipping its toes in more realistic waters, according to found Greg Zeschuk.

Maybe something similar to Alpha Protocol, but more streamlined? Or maybe they'll jump into the FPS bandwagon, which is more suitable for the actual Bioware. Laughing

I agree with every word. They sold us PC gamers out. I won't forget that anytime soon. Same with CryTek. I am dissapoint...

Haven't we agreed that if DA2 wasn't called DA2, we wouldn't be irritated?
Let them do what they want.

Agreed? I could live with that, yes, but it's still pretty shite. Mostly because of the piss poor ending...
The game deserves it's hate. No matter how it's called. But since it actually is called DA2, it deserves the hate even more.

I didn't mean to imply that "it's a good game, it's just not an RPG." <- That's Mass Effect 2, not Dragon Age 2.

I meant that who cares, let them do what they want, as long as they don't rape established franchises.

If in 2003 you'd tell me that the company that made some of the most fantastic RPG games ever, ran itself into the fucking ground i wouldn't believe it.
Sales for DA2 tanked once people started to actually play the game and not listen to reviewers.

Yes, Mr Gaider... I'm sure it was 4chan that downvoted your ridiculous excuse for a sequel, I'm sure of it.

Up yours to people that said Ea wouldn't ruin bioware, their next game will probably be GOW type in an urban new york setting, they'll call it a new breed of action/rpgs and guess what you'll be searching for those rpg elements with a microscope.

In combination with the Codex no less. Is it any wonder that Metacritic scores wilted in the face of such an unholy alliance?

You are wrong to think this is EA's doing. Your just still trying to find a saving factor, that would somehow absolve BioWare, because you still have hope for them. In fact, BioWare chose to team up with EA because they couldn't fund SWTOR by themselves. But make no mistake, the WoW-mod, that is SWTOR was all BioWare's idea. It's not only EA, it's BioWare too. It was hard for me to admit as well at first, but right now it seems BioWare has gone down the shitter.

Maybe, maybe they learned, but we won't know that until DA3 - that's the last chance they're getting from me.

Yeah, when they spammed all over the internet, how well DA2 sold, and how it outsold DAO (based on week1 sales data - which include preorders) - I said this would happen. It was clear from the start, that sales would drop drastically, once word of mouth gets around, and that happened.
