Apparently, people are accused of hating films and games just because they are popular, I want to continue the discussion here, not to clutter the other thread.
@Radicalus What did you think of The Dark Knight and Inception?
Also, if anyone wishes to share his hate for popular media, please do so.
I will start by saying that I find the Italian/Sicilian mafia fascination of the US of the 70s-90s period to be honestly rather bad. I do not find Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino and so on ("bustin` my ballz ") to be of any particular value. American Gangster, for example, to me is much more mature and coherent crime epic.
Does anyone hate me when I say that I found that "masterpiece" that 2001: A Space Odyssey apparently is, a gigantic piece of shit? Don't get where the fascination for that film comes from :E

I don't hate you simply because I share your opinion on the film.
@iNatan Well, hard to say. I really liked Memento, and think Nolan is very fucking talented, so I really wanted to like TDK, but somehow, it never elevated past action movie status for me. As an action movie, is good, but the drama (as in believable conflicts, characters and situations), that defined previous works of his was not in TDK.
Inception - I hoped it would be the next Matrix, but it wasn't. While it made me think, which is great, it also seemed forced sometimes. Complex for complexity's sake, which I don't particularly like. I loved the acting, and loved some of the ideas, but felt "dreaming" could have more potential. Remember that scene in the movie, where Eames tells Arthur "you musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling" - well, that's how I felt about the movie: not quite there.
So Inception gets high scores for me, but it doesn't beat the Matrix for best sci-fi action movie.

I loved the movie, when I saw it as a teenager, it was like hitting a brick wall. But then, I realized Tarkovsky's sci-fis were vastly superior pieces of work. 2001 was good, but not that good.
Kubrick's Orange Clockwork however was epic!
And I never could swallow FMJ, it was too segmented for my taste, the first part is all, that I liked about that movie.
@Leo: I remember when we talked about it some time ago in the LWM thread, I disagree but <3 , tastes in movies are so extremely personal that it's not even a debating point imo, unless someone is deliberately trolling
And he seems like he's losing his mind in the meanwhile.
When Avatar was still fresh and all the rage, he made many comments about things he didn't know jack shit about, like climate science, and said he'd take anyone to the street, who didn't agree with him. "I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out". Sure, someone being emotional about his views, I can live with that.
some time later, he gave an "explanation" why he didn't have the debate afterall, according to his spokesman: "Morano is not at Cameron’s level to debate, and that’s why it didn’t happen. Cameron should be debating someone who is similar to his stature in our society" - funny, since he initiated the debate with Morano in the first place, he invited him.
So after this fiasco, the fucking arrogant asshole, Cameron, has lost all my respect forever.
So Natan, why, what did you think about TDK and Inception?
I thought TDK was magnificent. It was a fantastic crime epic, a brilliant character study and the absurdity of most of what the Joker said being actually true about modern society. The title meaning, the Harvey Dent character and his sentence of "Either you die a hero or you see yourself become the villain". It was just extraordinarily deep for what was supposed to be comic book action flick. I think it was done magnificently, giving every portion of the viewing audience something to like; kids have their wacky character and Batman and action, but adults also have depth here to enjoy (compare with Iron Man - esp. IM2 - to see what I mean ).
Inception on the other hand, I did not like as much. I thought it was very good still, but at times it felt to me like being convoluted for the of convolution, something I never felt in Memento for example.
But still, when you take into consideration the retarded state of cinema we are in, both bring some fresh air and some thought to the action genre. I thought the same for The International, the Bourne trilogy, etc.
Admit it, you hate them because they were popular!

Some food for thought. Coolness is in the eye of the society, and if the majority of people think someone is a hater for the sake of hating, then how does that make that someone cool? ף(
I agree, with parts of what you said about TDK - like it being a serious comic-book adaptation for adults, and it really did achieve in that regard - however many of your opinions I don't share, because I don't think TDK's characters measure up to being really good character studies - their progression is linear throughout and predictable. Also, Joker was wrong about many things, if you ask me, but I can live with that.
@iconized: really? If I remember correctly it starts with 40 minutes of watching neanderthals do retarded shit, followed by 30 minutes of a space station tumbling with classical music to go. That is stoner material : p
@radicalus: the idea and mindset were good, but the execution was fucking terrible. It had the dynamics of a documentary, including camera work, but the intention of anything but that. As far as I'm concerned, it's much like most games nowadays: a lot of useless bullshit around a weak product. Could have been great, but wasn't.
Ehh sorry werelds, did not realise that you perceive your fellow men as Neanderthals. How do you perceive me? Someone who is able to speak to you but what ever I say is idiotic?

You know whats funny, the animated movie is actually better than avatar story wise. It feels more alive and filled with content.

What? I'm quite serious, the first 40 minutes of 2001 are filled with monkeys or Homo Erectus right? Filmed as if it was a documentary, showing how they discover fire or something? I honestly can't remember the details, and I'd rather stick a dildo up my ass than to sit through the horror of that film again
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
