SOCOM 4
- Platform: PlayStation 3
- Developer: Zipper Interactive
- Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
- Release date: Fall 2010
- Genre: Third Person Shooter
- Trailer: GameTrailer's Teaser Trailer
Description
Quote: | "As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it’s too late. In only six days, you must lead your team through a hostile jungle and urban environments against an army of well-armed rebel insurgents that completely outnumber you.
If that setup doesn’t whet your appetite enough, you should also be pleased to know that in addition to the SOCOM’s single-player operation, players will also be able to enjoy a 32-person multiplayer mode that boasts more Special Forces units than ever before!
If you crave even more information, then the guys at IGN have you covered with their exclusive first-look preview at what we’ve shown so far. Editor and shooting game fanatic, Ryan Geddes, dropped by our studio earlier in the week to check out SOCOM 4 for himself, so be sure to read the full IGN article to find out what he thinks." - PSBlog |

A third person, tactical shooter with a singleplayer campaign comprising around 12 hours of gameplay. Features a 5 man squad you can order around using the command system which supposedly allows waypoint distribution with multiple objectives along the way. Destructible environments, 32 player online multiplayer and potentially more options online such as co-operative (but not yet confirmed). Also apparently has an uncluttered interface.
Whilst it's not an earth shattering announcement it still sounds promising, and has the potential to be a good game. It's a shooter - but there's not many tactical shooters, especially not singleplayer ones (even though this is obviously going to be focused on multi-player they've confirmed it has a proper single-player mode). I'm probably getting my hopes up but even if it just has a whiff of something like H&D2 and its ilk I'll be happy.

If you mean what I think you mean, they announced the game before the GTTV reveal - and all information as usual is shamelessly mined from neoGAF

I hope that game get better. From the Video its a pass for me, looks very mediocre.
And come on Sony, now they are copying the Wii. Yawn.

Sony had this stuff back in the PS2 era, and it is a more accurate and versatile solution than the Wii's.

By all accounts it has been shoe-horned in to make a point, so all things considered it appears to be working rather well. Watching the table tennis demo it looks like the controls have a lot of potential, so seeing it WORK in a traditional game environment like SOCOMs is good news. That said; I'll be sticking to the dualshock for this game (assuming it's any good).

I'm inclined to agree but it's early footage to show off the implementation of motion controls - not a demo of the game itself.

Is it good to play? I've been waiting for ages for a game like ancient SEAL Team. Do I have to wait more?

http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/04/19/0430230/Used-Game-Penalty-Escalates-With-SOCOM-4
Quote: | SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals charts a new course in punishing used game buyers, and it’s at once better and worse than the status quo of $10 online passes. As described on the official Playstation Blog, SOCOM 4 will let all players access the game’s multiplayer portion — as it should, because online play has always been SOCOM’s main attraction — but used game buyers will miss out on special guns, game types, and other perks to be added later. To get these features with a used copy of the game, you’ll have to buy a $15 activation code. Sony’s spinning this bundle of features, dubbed 'SOCOM Pro,' as an enhancement for new game buyers, rather than a drawback for used copies. It’s semantics, sure, but it’s also the direction in which these used game restrictions should be going. |

I like the game, gfx are OK. Voiceovers are great. Story is kinda standard shooter fare. But still fun to play. Also its not that long, 6-7 hours.

havent played neither online nor with move. The gfx, well, theyre not PS2, but no Uncharted 2 either. Im not the best judge to what looks shitty in your eyes cuz im pretty tolerant in that department. My guess is, if youre really graphic-conscient this game could not be for you.

So, to buy it or not to buy it? I don't care that much for single player, but is the multi worth it? Had problems connecting to beta, I dunno if it still works anyway? Does it play motre like BC2 or MAG or a dumb CoD style?

Is there any stealth left in this game or is it just another gears of war-style shooter? I loved the voice orders and sneaky routes in the first two socom games (it had an amazing multiplayer too).
