As the title says, atm i got around €1000,- avaible for a new system (give and take €100,-).
Now the thing is that my current pc aint actually that bad:
Quote: |
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS7500-Alcu LED
Motherboard: GigaByte MA790X-DS4
Memory: 4096MB RAM OCZ. DDR2-800 Latency 5 Gold Edition
Hard Drive: 2x Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB @ Raid0 + Velociraptor 10.000RPM 160gb
Video Card: ATI Sapphire HD6870
Soundcard: Creative SB Audigy 4 (?)
Powersupply: Cooler Master Real Power M620
Computer Case: NZXT Apollo Black
|
Now my idea is to go for the following parts:
Quote: |
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2600 (NEW)
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS7500-Alcu LED (if still fits, donno atm)
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 -=Rev.3.0=- (NEW)
Memory: Kingston HyperX 8 GB DDR3-1333 Quad-Kit (NEW)
Hard Drive: 2x Samsung HD204UI (spinpoint F4 2TB) + OCZSSD2-2AGTE60G (NEW)
Video Card: ATI Sapphire HD6870
Soundcard: Creative SB Audigy 4 (?)
Powersupply: Corsair CMPSU-1000HX (NEW)
Computer Case: Zalman Z9 Plus (NEW)
|
Keeping in mind that i want to be able to play games on 1080p and being able to fraps at 1080p with minimal loss, video encoding (altho i could use my old one for that) and livestream of games.
Furthermore im willing to dispatch ALL old hardware and get a complete new system, or save money and use old hardware.
So.... suggestions anyone?

For what? Like max 10-15% more frames per second?
How about just getting the SSD. You'll feel the biggest performance boost right there...

A few remarks:
CPU cooler: Get a Thermaltake Frio, Titan Fenrir or something, they all do much better than any Zalman thing; not that that one would fit anyway I think.
RAM: Major overkill, but it's cheap so meh. I would get a DDR3-1600 kit to give you much more headroom with overclocking; plus again, it'll benefit encoding.
SSD: Good, but get a Vertex 2 at least; I recommend a Vertex 3. No point in getting the Agility series, they're slower but cost pretty much the same.
PSU: MAJOR overkill lmfao. That setup you've chosen will not even reach 400W, save some money here mate, and perhaps put that towards a Vertex 3 120GB or a faster videocard. Don't get me wrong, not saying you need to get a cheapass 500GB unit, but look for a good quality PSU around 650W.
Case: that Z9 looks pretty cramped if I'm honest.
I can have a look around Tweakers and send you a basket link, because €1000 (is that including selling your current hardware btw?) is more than enough to build a very good PC; mine only cost me slightly more than that.

(seein this thread i tought i could put up my specs too)
I've got this:
Case: ANTEC 900
Motherboard: ASUS P5KDeluxe Wifi AP (4 years old)
CPU: Intel E8400 (had an E6600 for 2 years, then now the E8400 for other 2 years...) + Thermaltake BigTyph vx12
RAM: 4GB DDR2 667mhz (4 Years old!)
GPU: GIGABYTE 460GTX 1GB
HDD: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue SATA3 (MoBo's S2)
(No need for PSU change,it's a Thermaltake Toughpower 700W modular Thou)
Was lookin to upgrade these components:
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67
CPU: Intel i5 2400 or 2500 (without K,i'm not into OC) + ZALMAN CNPS10 Extreme (coz it has that PWM that can be putted outside the case to control the fan...)
RAM: 6 or 8 GB DDR3 1333 or 1600mhz
Is it worth the upgrade?,using Windows XP ATM,but can have 7 HP 64bits on a partition (incase 7 fails on something...)..coz 7 makes Team Fortress 2 run "different" than XP without a friggin reason
ASUS X570 TUF GAMING PLUS, 32GB DDR4@2666 ,RYZEN 5800X3D (NO OC),GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Super GAMING OC, Western Digital Blue 4TB 5400RPM + SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500+1TB GB SSDs , OEM SATA DVD 22xNoctua NH-D15 Chromax Black, BenQ XL2420T Case: Be Quiet! DARK BASE PRO 901. PSU CORSAIR RM1200 SHIFT

@Ankh
Yea i meant the (k) version, kinda had an older list still.
@Werelds
The cooler i got atm works actually pretty good, no noise at all @ 2300 rpm, cpu stressed around 55 degrees celcius (and the phenom II series get pretty warm)
Ram should be just fine, i got atm 4gb and feel like that is a little too less, but as the Sandybridge cpu's dont support tri-channel, im forced to go dual dual-channel.
But yea, you could send me a link for tweaker or hw.info, would appriciate it.
The budget i got is €1000,- (vacation money + money from community(gemeente)), so that excludes selling (pref i want to keep the old one, like i said 1 for rendering movies)
Oh btw, the case cant be too heavy, as i go to lan parties alot

Missing:
- Case, I'll leave that up to you as I don't know what you do or don't like
- Storage; see why below
- GPU; see why below.
That came out to ~€685 with the above missing. Add another €50-60 for a smaller, relatively cheap case and you come out to €745, leaving €255 for a GPU + Storage.
Now, I assume you're planning to keep the old PC, but this one will be the one for gaming yeah? Then take the 6850 out, replace it with a €30-40 card and you've got another extra €60 to spend (a 6850 is still worth about €100 2nd-hand).
Assuming you do that, you've got about €300-ish to spend on a good GPU and some additional storage; you'll still have the 2TB from the old PC as well, so do you really want 4TB?
Anyway, you can get a 6950 2GB for about €220 (EASILY handles 1080p fully maxed out), leaving a bit over €80 for storage. That in turn gets you somewhere between 2TB and 3TB of storage; get nice slow and quiet drives here, since they'll only be used for storage anyway

Yea the old pc is more or less as reserve, or when someone comes to visit.
For that one i still got my 2x HD3870 Toxic cards, and 1 HD4980 Vapor-x (last one borrowed to a friend atm tho as he still had 8600GT )
Oh and my old card is a HD6870 not 50
Still i think 4GB is just too less, for those extra 50 euros its basicly nothing. Plus im ready for a few extra years
http://tweakers.net/gallery/154245?wish_id=154621#tab:wenslijst
Is what i was thinking of then, with using my old HD6870 in the new system.
Now for the case.
Couple of toughts here:

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/262494/nzxt-phantom.html
or

So now you know kinda what my taste is like

Thats actually more than you'd get in sweden |
Here you get €350,- (if your longer then 3 years below minimal income per month) €650,- (vacation money) and €350,- (at the end of the year to cover inexpensives you made because of the handicap) = €1350,- once per year extra.

I can recommend the Phantom. I've got one (White, fuck yeah), and I absolutely love it. Not cheap, but it cools very well, is incredibly spatious and easy to work with
As for the rest, you seem to be quite set on your 4TB of storage, so good choice on the drives there, nice and quiet. RAM I doubt you'll ever get beyond 4GB, I still think that's a bit of a money waster. I highly doubt you tax your system more than I do so meh
I'd still sell the 6870 and spend some leftover cash on that, but that's just me.

Yep
(Old pic, looks much neater now)
And I still highly doubt you will get to 4GB, it's not odd for me to have PS, a few instances of some IDE, Winamp, Skype, IRC, Thunderbird and Opera with 20 tabs for trol..err forum browsing open. In fact, right now I have 2 instances of VS, one of IntelliJ IDEA, Photoshop, IRC, Winamp, NP++, TB and Opera with "just" 9 tabs open, and I'm at 2.8 GB
As for selling your 6870: I mean selling that and using that extra cash on a 6950, that'll surely keep you going with everything maxed out at a constant 60 FPS @ 1080p

This correct? |
Yep, pretty much. Not that big of a difference between them. There was something else though, lemme look that up (I'll edit the post in 2 minutes ).
Edit:
The 2600k has Hyperthreading obviously, 8 threads instead of 4. From what I can tell that doesn't have much effect on anything though so the 2500k is a fine little thing
sausje wrote: | I get another €350,- around sept, so untill then i think i can better hold on to my HD6870, not like it will be the bottleneck right? |
Doubt it will be at 1080p, although there might be a few odd titles that'll get you GPU limited (BC2, Crysis), but for the most part you'll be fine I think

Oh and you suggested me ddr3-1600 ram, but the Sandybridge cpu's can go to max ddr3-1333

Yeah, go with the 2500k. And no, that's not true; that's what they support, they can go higher
The advantage to slightly higher clocked memory is that when you overclock (and you're getting the K version, so you must be willing to do so) it'll take a bit longer before you hit a wall of any kind
My i5-760 officially only supports 1333 as well, but I'm also using DDR3-1600. You can underclock it fine if needed so

Yea bout that OCing, with the K version i just have to press 1 button and it's OCéd right?
And is my current mobo what im getting capable of doing so? Plus do i NEED to underclock that memory before i OC the cpu or can it run just fine?
As power supply btw, its rather an expensive one for only 660w
This is currently what a friend of mine has and working quite fine: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/227269/ocz-modxstream-pro-700w.html
As for my current setup after discussing:
http://tweakers.net/gallery/154245?wish_id=154658#tab:wenslijst
I went for the Vertex 3 as its 550mb/s read and 500mb/s write, compared to almost 50% lower with your suggestion.

Well before you usually had to do it through the FSB or BCLK or some form of bus speed. With the 2500k/2600k you do it through the multiplier, it can go as high as 45 or something stupid like that
sausje wrote: | And is my current mobo what im getting capable of doing so? Plus do i NEED to underclock that memory before i OC the cpu or can it run just fine? |
Not sure, it will most likely do so automatically, but for the actual overclocking part I suggest you check out some forums (overclockers.com, Bit-Tech probably has a guide as well), because I don't have a Sandy Bridge CPU
Yeah it is expensive, but it can actually deliver almost the full 660W. More importantly though, this PSU is completely silent. And with completely, I do mean completely. I have the X-650 (the "older" version), and the fan in mine rarely even bothers spinning up. That OCZ PSU you linked is incredibly shit, it says 700W but in reality it can only deliver a constant 550W roughly. That is a really, really bad PSU.
The reason the one I recommended is so expensive (there are others which are just as good btw, but you pay just as much) is because the hardware inside is incredibly reliable. There's a reason it comes with a standard 5 year warranty. It is so well protected, that it is virtually impossible for a power surge to blow anything but the PSU itself; the power it puts into your system is completely stable (ripple effect). I can keep going on, but spending a bit more money on a PSU like this will pay off in the end. Less risk of it breaking, if it does you have a long warranty, and as long as it doesn't you can easily keep using this for the next 5 years. My previous PSU was also an expensive unit back then, and that lasted me 5 years, even with a system that was equivalent to a 980X+GTX580 in terms of powerconsumption nowadays. That's why it's worth it
I've said this in other threads dozens of times already, but the one part where you do not want to skimp on money is the PSU. That is the heart of your system, and a good one will last you through several systems regardless of how heavily you tax them. For the record, that PSU I'm talking about is a CM RealPower 550W (the proper, non-pro one which is actually worse), and that is still powering my old E8400+5870 over at the guy who bought that system. 5.5 years old, and still going strong. The only other piece of hardware that has withstood me for that long is my IBM Thinkpad T42 >_<
As for the Vertex 3: I didn't put that in because it's quite a bit more expensive, but it's an awesome SSD, so good choice there
Just get a better PSU again, I can look for something slightly cheaper than the X-660 but better than that OCZ piece of crap if you want?

some framerate drops at blu's dustbowl's 1st stage left exit from the base..it just went down to 30-40 fps!,while on XP 50-100 around,depends....thou when u came out from it with lots of people it went down (i was TESTING a 24 slot server,23 BOTS and me as 24th)
maybe it went slow due to the amount of CPU needed for the bot control...70-90% on XP!..on i dun remember...it's totally weird..tought that with 4 cores or something better would help...
