But there is kind of "flaming" animation of attack itself (not cursor), that can be used for same purpose.
Or something like that. Lots of time passed from my last playthrough.

Yes there is, there's also a sword slash sound that you can go by. Very subtle, certainly not a flashing "press button naow" sign.
Anyway, since you played on normal you probably missed all the additional depth of the combat system like signs, pots, oils, bombs etc. and just hacked your way through, so no surprise you didn't like the combat.

I'm not gonna lie. Act 1 was probably my favorite. And then Act 4.
The outskirts of Vizima had such an amazing atmosphere.

The main storyline kicks in in act 2. Act 1 serves as an introduction to the "rules" and themes of the game. While the atmosphere in the outskirts (act 1) is indeed nice, you only perform sidequests until you're let into the city.
I usually don't like RPGs, only the story driven ones (I actually like that The Witcher has little to no character skill development) but even I loved The Witcher. Give it another try.

Being able to jump has nothing to do with jumping up and down like an idiot, it means you can climb, which means alternative routes, which means you can explore. You've never played Gothic's, Risen or Bethesda's RPG's? Exploring is a big part of RPG's imo, if you cant climb the exploring is really, really limited / linear.

Its retarded if you cant jump ingame, feels so crap (like you would be glued to the fucking ground). If you cant jump with the character, developers might aswell put it to wheelchair.

Exactly. Unlike movies or books you actually have the ability to controll your character in games, it's idiotic to not take full advantage of it. It's why i play games, not to get some half-assed movie-like experience where my movement is limited, or where the devs decides exactly where i should go, if i wanted that i watch a movie or read a book and get way better characters, story, dialogue etc..

nope, thats rubbish. exploration is about great level design, not being able to jump over an obstacle, or being able to throw in some platforming mechanics to let you jump on ledges to get up a cliff...
sure, exploring is a big part of rpgs. but not jumping. i think if you asked people what their favorite rpgs they've ever played are, id be surprised if even a quarter of them let you jump.

Look at Two Worlds 2 for a recent example of how jumping adds absolutely nothing to the gameplay, and even detracts from it due its its awkward implementation.

Probably someone doesn't remember BG2 & infinity engine games. Those are clearly no RPGs because you can't jump...

Climbing is a must if there's gonna be any decent exploring. In the old isometric 2D open world rpg's (FO, BG, Arcanum etc) there was exploring and you didnt mind that you couldnt jump because it wasnt really something any isometric RPG had, so you didnt miss it or was used to it.
If you've played Gothic's or Bethesda's 3D RPG's which lets you climb and explore, then its impossible to go back to 3D RPG's where you're glued to the ground and can't pass a 10 cm height, it's game breaking bad. I'm glad they've understod that for Witcher 2, no way in hell i would buy it if they hadn't fixed that.

Sorry Vurt, but it seems that YOU didn't play KotOR or any other RPG like that because The Witcher is that kind of RPG, it never was about exploring the way you did it in Gothic for example. Don't get me wrong, I like that in any game, but The Witcher just wasn't about that. It wasn't that kind of game in which you saw something and that meant you could get to that something.

Oblivion was horrible if you ask me, disorganized. Hardly anyone to talk to besides "rumors"
PC Specs: A Maganavox' Odyssey
Tweaked to play Frogger, Lemmings & GTA4

PS:T |
yeah PS:T, too bad the rest wasnt very good. Combat wasnt as good as BG for example, the quests are often terrible in design.
I also agree that Oblivion wasnt very good, it's not my favorite RPG, it's not even close to Gothic2 or Morrowind, even the patched up Gothic3 (with mods) is probably better (still haven't finished it). |
But BG had intriguing quest which IMO influenced PS:T. Their are actually quite a few oldschool RPGs, Western and Eastern that tell very good stories.
Oblivion, I just don't understand the fascination with it. With mods, you can make the world very beautiful and believable, but that immersion is ruined as soon as you talk someone. With one NPC having different voices, and barely have anything to bring to lore when it comes to that specific area.

"Modding is so 00s anyway, who cares about buggy stuff that requires useless and complex external programs to run when we can have better official expansions and cheap easily activable DLCs?"
