I'm still hyped. The yellowy thing will be a nuisance, but it won't affect gameplay.

A splinter in your heel doesn't affect your walking, but you still feel every step.

Some of the best games I've played had huge "splinters".

I guess it's horses for courses then, but there's no way I'd feel comfortable (immersion my ass) playing the game like that in its current state. The "director" was pretty adamant that it's a gameplay feature and not removable.... so that just means I'm not going to waste my time on it.

At the behest of a friend ( ) I just read the ENTIRETY of the following thread ... and I'm even more saddened than I was before. Not only is this highlighting and hand-holding issue not going to go away, a depressing percentage of people will fight tooth and nail to DEFEND it -- and those complaining are just PC elitist whiners who only want Deus Ex[paraphrased]. EM obviously have no intention of catering to the demands of the players (yanno, the ones willing to plunk down $50-80 on the game) because they know they've got a small army of loyal fanboys who simply adore their decisions - and because it's "their game" ( ) and because it wasn't complained about by any of their 100 play testers ( )
It's saddening because even the MODERATORS agree that it's a bad thing and should, at the very least, have a toggle option -- but they just get drowned out by the fanboys who simply refuse to see the point of view of others, who will argue until their fingers fall off no matter what reasoning they're presented with. Apparently the highlighting is only "in your face" because, as an outside viewer watching a video, you "notice things like that" -- when you're PLAYING the game you, apparently, grow accustomed and learn to ignore it.
I DON'T WANT TO LEARN TO IGNORE IT.
But, oh well. I read the thread, I saw that this - and any other hand-holding - feature is almost entirely accepted with open arms. Anyone who disagrees is just drowned out and argued with. They're not outright saying "We love it! Keep it!" but they might as well be with the way they defend the "logic" behind EM's decision, the way the argue constantly against criticism of the highlighting system. There's just no reason at all to have even CONSIDERED this kind of option, well.... none except a blatant attempt to appeal to the COD demographic. Hell, they already confirmed that with the full-FPS approach.
Now I can push the game out of my mind and forget about it.

Maybe Jensen's a retard and wouldn't figure he could, like, climb ladders and shit without being told by his internal computer? It's a role playing game, isn't it?

I wonder how they couldn't of seen the backlash from this, they seemed to be doing so well otherwise. Ah well...

Someone should hire this guy to work on the art team.. and it's gratifying to know I'm not the only one who thinks the GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is really aggravating.

Jesus Christ the idiots are everywhere, it's a fucking invasion. You know, they added the yellow shit vision tint cause it is like real life.

Brainwashed much?! "Choice", you say?! That's NOT choice, that's forcing your hand and your decision, and I hope you'll wake up soon from your brain sleep.
You sound like a corporate representative that wants control over short-minded subjects. Or, to that matter, mostly like one of the 'happily' convinced subjects.

Btw, I am also sorry for feeding the trolls. But "choice" made me do it. |
so far we have several "PC elitists" who don't know that the maps of the original PC version of Deus Ex were split up into zones
Now, tell me, do you think those people can fairly judge a new game when they cannot accurately remember the faults of older games and look at the past games through rose-tinted glasses? in other words they are living in denial.
As someone who actually played the original Deus Ex, I personally think that there is nothing wrong with what Eidos is doing and commend them for not ruining the game to suit a small minority of loud-mouthed PC elitists

If it HAS to be highlighted from across the room, at least make it so it only highlights when our crosshair is actually on that object. So it prevents the entire screen from being littered with ugly ass yellow lines, and it also implies that our character is "focusing" or scanning on that one part of the room.
I notice the ladder is still highlighted when the camera goes into third person and we see our character climbing down. So if this yellow highlighting is supposed to be something our character sees, doesn't that suggest even third person camera angles are from his perspective? You'd think the highlighting would go away at that point.
