Eurogamer: Is Dragon Age II better on PC?

Mike Laidlaw: I wouldn't say so. We actually did extensive work to make sure the experiences were much closer aligned. I would say the gulf between the two was quite significant in Origins, simply because the consoles were tackled second as opposed to concurrently with the PC. There's some amazing visual work on PC - a high quality texture pack and DirectX 11 - and one that nicely scales to the PC's stronger hardware. In terms of the way it controls and the way it plays: the game's are quite identical, it's just that the interface is different.

Yeah, it's also a feature that DX11 works like total shit.

Writing is awful and incomparable to DA1, no effort spent on UI art anymore, removed customization of companion characters, reused/remixed music, reused animations, less character customization options, less abilities/skills and longer time to level up, bland boring checklist of quests, less dialog options -- LESS OF EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME.

Major fucking letdown is what this game is. A prime example of a cash cow. So disappointed Sad

It's like they decided on the release deadline, then examined DA1 and started making a list with stuff they can cut/ reuse/simplify in order to fit the production time in the deadline :
they reused 3d models, made unisex armors, reused dungeons, almost completely removed interaction with party members, etc. Even the storyline was tailored to minimize the environments / maps they have to create.

I don't understand people who praise DAO writing. It was mostly full of fantasy cliches and completely uninspired. They actually took the only TWO somewhat unique aspects of their lore/story from DAO (the qunari and the whole mages/chantry/templars thing) and tried to expand them in DA2 with mixed results. The game has major design flaws but writing is not that bad. At least i remeber having many more facepalm moments replaying DAO+Awakening recently.

same reason they praised mafia and hated mafia II ?(most of them don't read and have the IQ of a cement mixer and if they somehow come across the same themes more than once they will rage) ?

Seriously, something is fucked up with the game after I unlocked all this DLC. I'm getting ridiculous freezes/slowdowns in act3. I blocked every In/outgoing connections for the dragonage2.exe...

Well, Mafia 1 was much better in every aspect than the sequel. Including writing and story presentation. Even though it had some really cheesy dialogues - the voice acting was mostly great, missions were pretty diverse and it didn't feel like it's just drive and shoot (even though that's exactly what it was).

I think there are two main concepts of game design.
1. You can make limited gameplay mechanics engaging and attractive by framing them with excellent writing, dialogues, engaging plotlines, lore, etc. Mafia is a great example.
2. Or you can increase the number actual gameplay elements in the game.

Very few games actually try to combine both. Only Gothic 1+2 and Deus EX come to mind.

EDIT: Also since we are posting awesome stuff here. Hereare some of the best dialogues from PST. RIP Tony Jay Sad

I agree.

But also, they are now entitled to do this; when comparing DA:O with DA2, they are right. Heck, even I am sooo tempted to reinstall DA1! Thankfully, I've STALKER CoP and Risen to quench my free-roaming, RPG thirst.

Would be funny to see how Dragon Age 1's sales would now go up, in response to how disappointing BioWare's latest RPG was. People need RPG's more than they think they do. Very Happy

Meh, I actually quite like the game... well a bit... there's a shitload of things that is ass in this game but I wouldn't go as far as calling it horrible (unless you compare it point by point to Origins)

What annoys me the most is the combat, and that's a pretty fucking big thing in this game.

We heard from Fatlaw and innumerable fanboys that the game plays out the same as Origins but faster, there's a bit of thruth, but a buttload of shit wrong.

You can't make a game tactical if all your fucking encounters are the same, yes, it's always the same ! 4-5 warriors, 3-4 archers, occasionnaly a rogue lieutenant, and very rarely a mage.

They all do the same shit, regular warriors and archers just autoattack, rogues do a backflip and dissapear in a puff of smoke and backstab someone, and mages keep casting that useless force explosion spell that does barely any damage, surrounds himself in barrier and teleports around.

So since there is absolutely no ennemy structure variation, we end up repeating the same chain of spells/skills (my. very few. spells) each encouters which makes the combat old, and boring, fast.

FIGHT LIK A SPARTUN lol wut

Hi All,
Sorry to come up again with non working DLC stuff.
But I can t get the Black Emporium, Exile prince and the other one to work.
They appear in my downloaded content section.
But ingame I don t see the location in my map, or the Quest in the premium content list.
The activated items are there in my special delivery chest, but the 3 DLC are not working in game.
Any idea ?

What's pretty strange is the fact that there is no boasting about how many millions copies they've sold since launch.

If the game would've been actually a major hit, we would be seeing already someone from EA saying we've already sold 1 million copies on day one and we wouldn't see Biowarian/EA monkeys trying to explain how great the game is and how people are actually scared of the change in the gameplay.

No. Bad Company 2 sold very well but EA didn't speak about it until their quarterly report, 2 months later, where they revealed it has sold 5 million units.

At least that's what google tells me Smile

Look, you don't know how hard it is for me... for my family. We came all the way from Ferelden to escape the Blight, looking to start a new life, some honest work and a roof over our heads ... but instead we become no better than slaves. That overlord makes hundreds of sovereigns each day yet he pays his workers, all Ferelden I might add, a pittance! I earn less than 2 silver a day!

Ah the great DA2, where teammates fight flies while being back-stabbed, where teammates fight enemies when they're being told not to do anything, where teammates switch focus even though you told them not to.

Great game indeed.
But there's a typo in your score sabin, that's 05/20, not 05/10 Razz

When I saw that guy mention Sabin, I instantly thought of our Sabin, and how it's all a joke from Bioware because they may read this forum and seeing as how Sabin is very methodic and on the point in his criticisms...

Who praises DA:O writing? It's mediocre, but this shit in DA2 is fucking awful. The dialog is horrendous at best.

EA bans player from playing Dragon Age 2 for calling them “Devil”

Quote:
In what appears to be a tottaly unfair practice, it appears EA are banning people from accessing their legally purchased copies of Dragon Age 2 if they were vocal about their displeasure regarding the game over at the official Bioware forums.

One particular case in point is of VWARE, a user who got banned for accusing Bioware of “selling their souls to the EA devil”. He agreed that it was fair to ban him from the forums for 72 hours, however was shocked when he realized that he can’t access his Bioware social account and activate his recently purchased copy of Dragon Age 2.
