They still insist on saying that god is out there and is , sometimes going to help them out .
Why the fuck are 500+ people dying in 8+ magnitude earthquakes ?
Answer from a christian : Well, that's god's will .
Why doesn;t god protect dudes ? Basically only simple coincidences are being takes as god ?
answer from a usual dude : Shit happens .
A 9+ earthquake can occur after i finish writing the text in this thread, and the fucking flat will fall on me . Why is this happening ? Because that's how things work .
I tried several and numerous times to explain to god fags that they really need to get rid of that straight thought and get the fuck out to think .
Unfortunately they are just simple programs . |
I don't believe in god, but if you do believe in one, those explanations don't really hold. There are better arguments against religion.
Because if you do believe in god, death is not a necessarily a bad thing. You die you might to heaven, life goes on. If there was no "evil" on this world, and everything was nice and dandy, what would be the purpose of heaven?
God taking your arm or a leg might be considered as a test of faith. You fail you end up in hell. That's pretty much how I get it. The religious folks believe we're here to prove our faith, which in term determines where you end up in the afterlife.
But like I said I don't believe in god. Those would be the explanations I would give if I did though.

know whats more retarded than believing in god? asking WHY people believe in god.
they do it to give themselves greater self importance... why would you even question why some people need that?

I am not religious but I think I am spiritual. Can't stand some person preaching to me or organized religions where some person who is prob motivated by all the deadly sins themselves pretends to know what god wants.
As far as there being no god because bad things happen I kinda don't buy. Sometimes life just happens, and the bad things in it. I don't think we are meant to understand everything.

So why is it your business to make people believe in what you believe? Cause you know it's right? Oh the religious nutters will tell you just the same
You'll say physics! Logic! They will say god doesn't need to play by the rules.

There is a difference in enlighting people and just forcing them your opinion down the throat. Look at bose' first post. Who does need such bullshit? Is that what dawkins and so on do? Nope.

Yes, that went well for some countries where you can be hung for speaking out against the belief of there being a God. Religion should NEVER be majority in a country. |
That's not what he is saying.
Let people believe in whatever they want.
If majority wants to believe god doesn't exist that is fine too. Neither should be forced onto people.

In my country majority believes. My whole family does, goes to church, and gives donations to them. I'm treated just fine and have never been forced to go to church or anything. And I haven't heard of anyone getting beaten, hanged or whatever for not believing in my country. So it's perfectly possible to coexist.

Yeah but those have really high uneducation aswell. Again, education is the biggest problem we have. One might ofc argue if their practice of religion stops them from getting educated, being poor or just both of em.
In turkey for example 99% are muslim. Though more and more young people choose to follow their own path. I didn't see anyone hung because of that.

another religion debate *sigh*
Here it is - Organized, dogmatic, institutionalized 'religion' is simply a mass neurological disorder. It is possible for a billion ppl to share the same delusion because it has been so ingrained in our society.
Eventually, man will move past religion and having to know that one specific answer that science can't prove (as of yet? who knows? anything and everything is possible as the theory goes)....what happens when you die?
No one on Earth can answer that question. No LIVING (as we know life to be) person to clarify my statement. No book or mythological story can tell you what happens when your physical body stops working. Plain and simple. End of discussion in my opinion.

In your country the ppl said to be believers just so they wouldn't be outcasted (Or do you just want to forget how were the ppl in the mid 90's, who didn't fit in, treated?). Also the magical number of 85% of christians will melt away on the new census.
Also don't forget the meddling of the church in the state business.
I'm also for freedom of choice, but I advocate rational thinking. More can be done by thinking then just following blindly...

as far as 'what happens when you die' its overcomplicated from what it is.
we are chemical processes, that last about 80 years before starting to fail from "copy errors" of the cells trying to replicate other cells to replace bad/dying/dead ones.
after that time, the system is no longer self sustaining, and breaks down.
what happens when we 'die'? simple..chemical reactions stop. with no cells getting what they need to replicate (even in an erroneous manner), we rot away.
its akin to mixing vinegar and baking soda, eventually the chemicals needed to continue the reactions run out. just we do it on a much more complex scale, but same idea. once our cells have 'photocopied" each other so many time is a row, its original blueprint gets slowly worse and worse, until the cells cannot support themselves.
no one claims 'chemical reactions" die..they just run out. but since mankind is self aware..we assume and are vain as a species..to want to believe there is something more to it than just "he ran his course of time.."

As far as we know. People were convinced that Earth was flat once too.
For example our entire universe could be just a computer simulation of a more advanced race. No one guarantees that the laws of physics even match inside or outside of the simulation. (Think Matrix. Although you die inside the matrix, and your "chemical processes" stop as far as other Matrix people are concerned, you might have had just woken up in the real world.)
And if you read about "many-worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics, which is something we are starting to learn about, I think there's a concept of consciousness involved in it. Although I'm not very informed in this area.
