The story: I have 4 HDD's, 2 250's in raid, 500 and a 1000. Recently my father whined his XP won't boot and so he asked me to format and reinstall it, fine, i couldn't care less. I put in the cd, pick the correct drive and it starts formatting, and for some reason it started formatting one of the 250's. Long story short, I had 10 years of data on that raid, pictures, documents, generaly half of my life went fuck itself. I couldn't believe that as happening during the format that I cancelled it at 50%, and here I am now hoarding all the recoveryapps I can find hoping thy can help me recover anything from my what is now, a 3/4th of a raid 0

and this is why you should never be flippant around formatting drives. seriously, if i had to pick between playing with fire and formatting drives in relation to the requirement of amount of attention you SHOULD be paying, i pick formatting hdds.

hope you didnt lose anything good like porn. good porn can be really hard to track down again Sad

I panicked a bit at beggining because it's the first time I had to recover data from formated raid in such a fucked up way, but it seems like Recuva sees the entire raid(both disks) as in perfect condition, files not even deleted and so I'm recovering it all now.

Why'd I even download porn if I can stream it? Question

Now imagine if the disk on which you had like super important files for university, and other stuff just die...

That's what happened to me a year ago... So count yourself lucky Very Happy

Nope, I wanted to give it to pros, and recover that, but that would void my warranty, and when I asked if I could have it after I got the new one, they said no :\ So I lost it all... So now I learned to make backups regularly Very Happy

That is why I am in love with my external HD. No big deal if I loose everything. It is all backed up. Still would be a huge pain in the ass tho.

Until your external HD tumbles from your desk to the cold, hard wooden floor. Sad
And you spend 5 weeks trying to recover what was in there. Sad Sad

Thankfully I managed to recover ~95% of the stuff, so besides those 5 weeks

Anything important, old and new I keep triple backups of, plus I have some super super important photos, files and documents compressed and distributed over three web accounts.

Yes, yes I'm back.

Mindreader you are!!!

Ya, I have it on the upstaires computer mostly and bring it downstairs to transfer stuff. I never have drinks around it. Upstaires I have it sorta caught up (on its side, don't know if that is ok) under the table. I spilled a cup of tea and thought for sure it got dumped inside. thank god it didn't but now I don't drink anything except outta a bottle with a cap when I am watching movies in bed. That is what i do everynight. Curl up in bed with a movie, teddybear, and lots of fuzzy blankets and bottled S.Pellegrino.
