Xsyon Earth 2012 Prelude

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Developer: Notorious Games (Indie)
  • Media type and size: digital download
  • Genre: MMORPG
  • Release date: March 15, 2010
  • Story/Description:

Quote:
What is Xsyon?

Xsyon is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), an online community, a virtual world and an adventure.

Set in the near future, Xsyon is an apocalyptic fable. The world draws its inspiration from history, mythology, and prophecies of the Apocalypse. Most aspects of modern life are now gone. The leaders of the new world, under the guidance of the reinvigorated once forgotten gods, have hidden traces of the scientific progress that led to the devastation of the earth. Modern vehicles, weapons, appliances, computer and even the books that describe these things are practically nowhere to be found.

The world will be released in a series of installments. Each release will further expand the online world to locations across the planet. the myths, beliefs and culture of these locations, both past and present will augment the Xsyon experience, as new skills, crafts, artifacts, creatures and landscapes are introduced. The storyline will advance based on the prophetic revelations and the players settlers of Xsyon who influence and determine the current state of the world.

From MMORPG:
Quote:
Who should try Xsyon - If you are old school and loved UO, SWG, or other sandbox games, you owe it to yourself to at least consider trying this game out. $40 for two months (plus 2-week head start) is a good deal and time enough to decide if you like it or not. If you don't like it or it's not really your thing, at least you supported the sandbox industry a bit which can't be a bad thing. Although the game is a bit rough right now, it has massive potential. I know, I know, you've heard that before, and so have I. We can't predict the future of any game but the lead designer created this game out of love for the genre, not out of a love for money. I see good things happening for Xsyon in the future.

Who should NOT try Xsyon - If you are into themeparks only, this game is not for you. If you expect everything to be handed to you, this game is not for you. If you have to have leet graphics in a game, this game is not for you. If you have a hard time figuring out how to play games on your own, this game is not for you. You get the idea.

Will be trying this game myself next week, hopefully I won't be disappointed this time as Mortal Online did (I couldn't even get that game properly installed).

The amount of digging, gathering and building is just one big grind, except in this case one asshole may wander into your area and create a huge lake in the center of your village which may take hours to fill up Smile I'm fed up with repetition so I'll skip it.

I guess that is stuff that will have to be addressed at some time and it is obvious the game is not near complete for now. I don't mind grinding if it pays off in the end.

Incorrect... that does and can not happen no longer.. Very Happy the devs fixed that after the dick was forming a pit at one of the spawn in points so everyone died on first login lol..

game is rough around the edges with animation making when your encumbered look like its lagging but its not its the character moving effect that does this..

The rest of the game on the whole is very interesting and fun, there are alot of new things or rather "fixed coded" skills and features going in for the wipe/early start launch next friday..

So far its been a blast, its by no way a fast twitch mmo its more like a minecraft setting with more variety, much more.

In my eyes the screenshots cant do it justice for me yet as its snowing and the seasons last 3 real weeks, so all ive seen is alot of white Very Happy

Otherwise enjoying it....

Hey you..

it might just be real odd to u, it is rough "ish" but to me its fine, maybe cause i play alot of other rough games Very Happy

It is though a drop you in and off you go survive game, no hand holding really at ALL...

regarding changes at wipe, there is supposedly all the missing features that were in last april before the coding went to cock and they had to get in more pro team to un spaghetti it etc, apparently its all on track and sorted and on friday coming its a full wipe an update and then you get you're 2 weeks before launch pre start if you pre ordered.

Bows are in just after launch as weapon recipe options or discovery. The main dev is an indy dev of course he lives at lake tahoe < spelling ? Where the prelude first map area is based on.

Ill be sticking with it at this time for sure as its reminiscent of the old feel u get when starting swg with no idea wtf to do... Of course crafting is the other big bonus.

not sure how open this thread is but try it saintbob has a good selection of info and links and there is one from a guy in another thread called willbonnie.

http://www.xsyon.com/forum/showthread.php/2916-Guide-Saintbob-s-Video-Tutorials!

I like quirky and will keep trying indy dev mmo's if they keep trying to push out games with a slight difference to the normal run of the mill..

So it looks like from the forums solo players are at a pretty big disadvantage in this. That more or less accurate?

@crossmr: If you mean homesteads that will be activated later and in what MMO can you do a raid alone? Working together will be necessary to achieve something.

not always, most MMOs I solo, or play with a core group of 3-4 friends anyway..
and its not that lack of ability to play as a group that's missing, that's there...if you want to be in a 50 man tribe, you can.

so your faulting the game itself for one(or a few) players choice to play solo? if so, every MMO in your opinion has that problem Razz

its not bad at all, if your into the minecraft/builder/settlers type games its good.
otherwise it might be over tedious, cruel, and slightly OCD..lol

well me, moose, and a friend have a little tribe.

if your into it for the building, your welcome to join.
but if your going after the open PvP, we might not be a good fit for ya Very Happy

Thanks, I am not a griever but before the final character wipe I have to try the PvP. Very Happy
Btw I read they are setting up an Euro server and I will most likely play there for better ping. With future tribal warfare in mind high ping = death.

I don't know. I'm mildly interested in this, but the game seems like a mess. The forums really don't seem encouraging and it doesn't seem like there is a clear concrete direction on things and it looks like that any solo player is basically griefer food in the long run.
definitely needs a trial of some kind.

@Moose and DXWarlock what area are you in and what are your names ingame? I am currently testing out builds and crafting. I use the name JD for now. I must say some people in the game just kill on sight without a reason so my 3rd char started with strength, fortitude, agility and dexterity maxed out. Very Happy
