It is 1933. You are in Berlin, Germany. Somehow, you find yourself in a position where you can effortlessly steal Adolf Hitler's wallet. This theft will not affect Hitler's rise to power, the nature of World War II, or the Holocaust. There is no important identification in the wallet, but the act will cost Hitler forty Reichmarks and completely ruin his evening. You do not need the money. The odds that you will be caught committing this crime are less than 2 percent.

Are you ethically obligated to steal Hitler's wallet?

I don't know about obligated, since theft is a crime no matter who the victim is, but I would definitely say you would be morally correct Very Happy

Why would you be ethically obliged to steal his money? You are assuming that you know the future events (ww2, holocaust...). And that's not possible.

Or you are proposing time travel, which is kinda preposterous.

Anywho stealing is not moral act, it's a crime, no matter on who you do it.

Either way I see no dilemma here. Or obligation.

Yeah I'd steal it. Then I'd plant all the relevant WW2 data (battle plans, campaign outcomes, new technologies - everything) on a microfilm into the wallet and give it back to him.
